sewing machine trolley
 

I'm looking for a rolling bag for my sewing machine - Brother 9000. The one I found a Joann's has bad reviews - cheap handle, breaks easily, etc.

In the links below the first one doesn't have any reviews. The second has good reviews, but only 4 of them. Trying to decide whether to wait until I can afford a better one or if something like this will do. I'm going on a retreat in June, don't take classes often, but who knows what the future holds?

I'm not sure about either of the cases, but the open crate is a disadvantage if it's rainy or windy. I have a larger machine and have not bought one for myself because of the price. I haven't found one that was less than $160. I used a carry on bag and luggage cart when I took my class. It was the only thing I could come up with using what I had on hand. If you are going local, a carry on bag might work for you. If you were traveling with it, you'd want to be sure to protect the machine with bubble wrap or other protective packaging.

Rain and wind - very true. Hadn't thought about a regular carryon bag. Mine lay flat and zip around the side - hadn't thought about using that - thought it needed to open at the top. Must be a rolling bag and not just a tote. hmmmmm. Thanks for your input.

The upcoming retreat is one we'll drive to so .. no worries about too much protective packaging.

I have one that I purchased at Joanns quite some time ago with a 40% off coupon. It works fine for me. All the others are so expensive!

Good to know about the Joann's one - it had so many bad comments about the handle that I was afraid it just wouldn't be worth it. Good to know yours has been fine. I had planned to get it next time they had a good coupon, but the reviews scared me.

Don't know much about these except I had one from JoAnn's that did not have handles on each side. That was a pain. I now have Tuttos for my machines. They come in different sizes so you would need to look at their website to see what size you would need for your machine. They are more expensive than JoAnn's, but AllBrands.com carries them at a lower price. Just another avenue to explore.

Found a 'suitcase' with wheels and handle for $3 at thrift shop. It's wide enough to handle my Singer 301A and tall enough to put sewing roll/fabric above the machine.

I got a Tutto on sale years ago. Now I don't use it much. I do pack my things for the sew-in or class, but not the machine in the Tutto. The Tutto can handle it OK, it is ME that can't. Now I have someone else take in my machine and all the other stuff is in the Tutto. It is also great for storage in my studio.

The Tutto is the best quality sewing machine tote for all makes of machines. The Bernia totes are great too. It's one time buy if you buy the best and could save you hundreds in a repair bill if you machine gets bumped around.

I bought my rolling tote at Joann't when they were on sale for $39. and have had it several years. It works fine for me has lots of storage etc. I tried using a luggage carrier and dropped my machine from it and cost me mega bucks to get it fixed . I still have room to pack my fabric and other supplies around the machine so it is well protected. Worth the money. However I only use it in my own vehicle to travel to quilt retreat etc. My friend has the biggest one and she can not lift it when she gets it packed. that would present a problem for me too.

I bought a Bernina off ebay a few years ago. I'd say go with the padded sewing machine tote if you're taking it to retreats. You'll go up curbs, stairs, rough sidewalks, etc. I went to the Mid-Atlantic quilt festival with mine and was in and out of hotels, on escalators, elevators, you name it. The machine can get a real beating if you're not careful.

I have a Joann's case for my small machines. I have used it for at least 5 years now. It was on clearance and they let me use a 40% off coupon so I think I paid $20.00 for it, but it still looks new and everything works. I had to get a much larger one for my Janome - believe it is the Tutto mentioned above. It will accommodate the larger machine, but I have to open the front and the top then reach thru the top and pull my machine in through the front. It fits so that is what matters but I was hoping to be able to just set it in, but unable to find a case. So be sure what you buy will fit your machine.

I bought this bag at Harbor Freight. It is a tool bag made of very heavy canvas. It isn't padded, but is big enough for me to put my Brother machine, with the hard cover on it, inside. I like the heavy handles on the top. So many rolling cases don't have handles to pick up without using the telescoping handle. I figure I'll have enough fabric, and equipment in the bag to pad the machine. The best part was the price. If I find something better I'm not out much.

I have the larger Blue Fig case like the first one and it is great. I take it out at least once a week for classes and group sewing and it has held up very well.

We have a couple of those around here. You can't beat it for the price. We hauled all of hubby's medical equipment around in one for slightly over 3 yrs. - talk about delicate stuff - never hurt the equipment in all those years.

It really depends on how often you plan on using, where you will be going and how much you want to spewnd. I have the one from Jo-Ann's with coupon and it is fine. No problems with handle. I use it to take classes on a weekly basis driven in my car, no problems and it is big enough to carry all my supplies and my Featherweight.

I have purchased several but the one I prefer is the tutto. Worth the money.

I got mine at Joanns about 3 or 4 years ago and it has been great.
