Going to look at two machines today and don't have many details yet. One is a Bernina embroidery machine and the other is a BabyLock Ellure. They are slightly used and I'm not sure how old they are (not too I don't think) Anyone got any advice or opinions?

Do searches on both to see what folks say.

Over the years (many), I have owned a Singer, a Kenmore, two Vikings, a Janome and a Bernina. I would choose my Bernina over the others. I purchased my Bernina used and am thrilled with its performance.

One thing I learned recently, is that Bernina's have a "clock" (for lack of a better term) that counts the hours used, much like the miles on an auto. You might want to inquire about the number of hours on the machine you are considering. Like an auto, look for low mileage.

Our local dealer allows us to trade up and give almost full credit for a previously purchased machine toward the next one. I am thinking of moving up but need to have "the discussion" with my husband.

Hope this helps. Suzanne

All I have ever had is one Singer. I got it in 1992 and it has NEVER been to the shop. I think I will call it "Old Faithful".

Good luck with your "investigation" Linda! Can't wait to hear the results!

Mina, I thought you'd see this post! I went to the Decon's conference sale at Winchell School today and guess what I bought- another 201-2!! Just what I need but it's in great shape. No attachments, though. I was pretty excited. Also bought a old papercutter, a brand new hot air popcorn popper, a couple of mirrors, a little antique graduated cylinder, a 1/2 bolt of 100% wool plaid fabric for$ 2.00 and a catnip toy for Abby. Just took Kaylie to the beauty parlor. I'm supposed to be cleaning. Hope you're having a good day. Linda

Yeah! Good for you! I have the Singer 202-2 Manual. If you didn't get one, call or email me and I will bring it with me next week. Wow the sale sounds fabulous! Did you see Connie there?

I can't wait to see what you decide. Keep us posted.

I didn't buy the Bernina embroidery machine. The lady selling it only knew how to plug it in. It didn't have an owner's manual and she couldn't demo it for me. I don't know I just didn't get a good feeling about it and I guess I don't really need an embroidery machine. I may go look at the Babylock this weekend. I have ALWAYS wanted a Bernina, though, really bad.
