Update: Thank you all for your advice!

I needed to take a break from sewing for a bit (is it possible to be mad at a sewing machine?) then decided to give it another try. I took it apart again, cleaned every nook and cranny, and amazingly it works now. I didn't find anything stuck in there other than lint but who knows, it works now!
