sewing outside layer of bag to inside, need help!
 

I want to quilt the outside layer and have decided to use fusible interfacing and then quilt. I also want to use interfacing on the lining but no quilting. So after the outside layer and lining are sewn How do I put them together? Another thing is I dont know when to sew the zipper onto the linging...uh so confused

I hope I understand your question. Let me tell you how I put together a bag. I quilt a top layer, batting (thin) and muslim together for the outside of the bag . I sew the front of the outside bag to the back of the outside bag pieces. I use iron on fleece and iron it to the lining. I then sew the lining front and back together leaving a 6" or so opening on the bottom. Then when ready (after straps have been added), I sew the "outside bag" and the "inside lining" together at the top. Then you turn the bag inside out. Press the top and then sew 1/4" from the top edge (top stitch).

An excellent pattern to learn how bags are put together is a pattern for the Bow Tuck Bag. Her instructions are excellent.

For application of zippers ----- someone has a tutorial here that would help with that.

The only thing I would add to Dee's great bit of information is this. After you finish top stitching around the top of the bag, stitch up the hole in the lining -- the most amazing things can fall into that hole. I usually just machine stitch it, but a lot of folks hand stitch it. For me -- since it is going to be the bottom inside of the bag I just want it to stay closed.

Ditto what QuiltnLady1 says about that darn hole. I stitch mine with the machine, too........I'm not lazy, just time conservative ROL!
