How do you sew patches on elbow of shirt? Package says to back stitch. Thats fine, but I am worried about the edges of the patch. It is a suede elbow patch with holes already there for sewing, but there is about 1/8 edge, will edge fray or turn up or anything if it is not sewed. Or is the suede more durable. As you can tell I have not sewed a patch for a while. This is for a friend of my husbands. I want to do a good job, I do know how to backstitch, but concerned about the edge that will not be sewn. Any suggestions?

I am guessing that it may be treated with something that will keep it from fraying and/or suede don't fray

Real suede is not fabric, it's leather. Leather doesn't fray.

you could always blanket stitch it- that would keep the edge from curling at all- but what little bit it might (lift) will not be very noticable- and probably would take quite a few washings first- there are sweaters in the thrift stores that are very old- that have the suede elbows- no curled edges....just a nice even straight stitch holding them on

Is the suede the real leather or the faux suede with the poly knit back? I guess it really wouldn't matter that much as I don't think either is going to fray.
