Sewing quilts all day!

I spent the whole day sewing quilts, making pillow cases and cutting material for kits.... I decided to go thru my material and make kits, putting them in ziplock bags. if it is all cut out and ready and organized it will be so much easier to do.. I did that one today from start to finish... I am sooooo happy!

Good use of your day! Thanks for the tip of making kits:)

LivelyLady 11-12-2011 07:16 PM

Isn't that a great feeling!! Thanks for the tip on making your own kits.

Susan G. 11-12-2011 07:18 PM

Good idea. I should try that.

yayaquilts 11-12-2011 08:14 PM

When I was recently on vacation I took a few projects to cut. It was really fun. It's so true that having the fabrics decided upon and pieces cut makes the completion of the project so much easier and faster. I definitely will be precutting projects in advance, especially when going to a quilting retreat

I can only imagine being able to devote a whole day to quilting fun! Yeah, I'm jealous! But glad you enjoyed it!

jollyquilting 11-12-2011 09:32 PM

Congratulations on being on top of things. I do the same thing sometimes and it ends up going so much faster.

quiltinghere 11-12-2011 09:44 PM

congratulations on a day well spent!

Painiacs 11-12-2011 09:45 PM

That's a great idea! For me the cutting out is the hardest and most stressful!

walkswithwolves 11-12-2011 10:30 PM

You had a good day then. That is a good idea.

GwynR 11-12-2011 10:36 PM

I did that last week with bow tucks, cut 11 of them. Today, most of them are halfway together. Goes so much faster! good idea to do that with quilt tops!

cathyvv 11-12-2011 11:03 PM

i spent the whole day making a mess! I took at this fabric, then that fabric, then another, and so on. I didn't put them away and I sewed almost nothing. The end result of all that work is simply a mess.

I had a good time making the mess, but cleaing it up tomorrow will not be nearly as much fun! :(

roxie623 11-12-2011 11:43 PM

This is such a great idea. I am thinking of following your lead.

Good Idea. BrendaK

so glad you could spend time the way you want to. I think to myself today I will do some sewing or even organize my sewing room then DH comes along and says I nead this cut out or that cut out so there goes my day, When I say cut out I am talking about chipboard for the cat furniture, NOT my quilts, GRRR. LOL

sewbeadit 11-13-2011 12:27 AM

You must have been so busy! I spent the day with my granddaughter that I don't see often and showing her how to make a quilt for her doll. She is 9 and learns quickly and is good:)

What a great day--to work and play in your fabric all day long. I'm sure you enjoyed yourself immensely.

my sister came to town and we cut and sewed a quilt top in one day. we had so much fun and are planning to do it again

Sewflower 11-13-2011 05:40 AM

I don't think I got any of that organizing DNA, but it is a really good idea!

Val in IN 11-13-2011 07:23 AM

What a great idea! I hate cutting and it would probably be better to do a BIG batch at a time and have more time later for the fun parts. Thanks for the tip :-)

luvstoquilt 11-13-2011 09:47 AM

I love to make kits...it is so much fun and the cutting mess is cleaned up all at once!

CarolLady 11-13-2011 10:17 AM

Great Idea!!!

SandScraps 11-14-2011 07:41 AM

Great idea! Cutting is the lazy part of a quilt for me. Once it is done, the rest seem to simply fall in place.

CorgiNole 11-14-2011 09:25 AM

Sounds like a fantastic day. I think I'm going to try for this next Saturday, after I drop Gus at a scout event.

Cheers, K

i wish i could do that i just don't have the time to do that but its a grand idea so am going to try to make some kits tooo..

LindaDeeter 11-14-2011 10:16 AM

You inspire me!! I too, made pillow cases over the weekend and have another set cut out. I really need to sort & organize and make kits. I know I would enjoy sewing more if I woud take the time to do that!

Jingle 11-14-2011 11:00 AM

I spent most of my weekend sewing strips together for a scrappy quilt. I still have bags of fabric scraps setting around. Not sure if I will need more or not.
Your day was so productive.

AnotherMadQuilter 11-14-2011 11:42 AM

I know this is probably a dumb question but I've never bought a "kit" for a quilt so I am wondering....what do you cut to include in your kit? This sounds like such a fabulous idea!

joyce888 11-14-2011 12:45 PM

Good for you - now come come to my house and do the same. Hey I'll even feed you!

sew1 11-15-2011 12:22 PM

Don't like to cut but when I do it goes fast. Like to sit and sew and see it all come together as I am a visual person. Glad you had a great day.
