A good Chair. Extra outlets need more amps. I know in my space I like open space. If you can make the room as large as you want; add a few feet more to keep it from being so closed in.

Design wall is great. I have had two different ones. I had fleece yeardage that was just sitting around (it was tan and matched my walls) so I put it up on the wall for an instant design wall that also helped with sound control. If you go this route, place a slat on the top and roll the fabric around once and nail to the wall. At the bottom, place two slats for double thickness and wrap the fabric around it and attatch. If you have double thickness at the bottom than the top you have a slight upward angle on the design wall. the fleece-like flannel hold the fabrics without much pins, the angle will help keep the blocks from falling off again without much pins. The fleece I had was 60 inches wide and I used that as my length so I had selvages top and bottom. I had about 2 yards in length. It was nice for a design wall. Have fun!

Great thread! I currently only have a 3' x 4' nook as my sewing space. But I have been promised a room of my own when we move into a larger place. I'll have to keep all these great suggestions in mind then.

I like to work on many projects at once, so a movable design wall would be my dream. I currently use a felt covered foam board which I can move around. I would have two or three of these if I had the space.

Something I started thinking about..

In my next sewing room revamp, I believe I'll look into some sort of modular type storage that can be moved around.
I tend to like to re-organize my space now and then.
It keeps me from getting bored in my space.
In my current sewing room I have two large storage cabinets on big casters that I can roll around.
They contain my stash. I have really enjoyed the flexibility it's given me.
I was able to move my design wall from hanging as a curtain in a large open doorway like area between my sewing room (former formal living room) and the formal dining room to actually hanging on a wall.
When I'm not actually using the wall, I roll my cabinets to that wall.
If for some reason I need more space, I just roll the cabinets into the foyer.

It's amazing what you can think of while thinking of things for someone else!

If I had it to do over again I would get cupboards with glass front doors so the dust doesn't get on my fabrics.

I have a long glass fronted cabinet with 3 doors and 3 shelves hanging on the wall. It is the top of a dining room china cabinet. Got it at a garage sale. There was no base to it and I think I paid $5.00 for it because everyone else thought it was "useless". DH mounted it on the studding and I keep all my embroidery & quilting thread in it so they don't get dusty. On each shelf I have a plastic butter container filled with water to keep the thread from drying out. Works great.
