I used green Sewline on a quilt I just finished hand quilting,
washed it and the green Sewline did not come out. It is under the stitching. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A friend of mine had the same thing happen. |
I had a marking pen not come out once, and someone here suggested a piece of material, soap ( i used dawn dish soap) and water and dab, it worked, I hoped this helps...

Hope you get it out!

I don't think Sewline pencils are supposed to wash out. I think you're supposed to erase the lines off before washing. They have a website, maybe they can give you more information there.

here's a link to the sewline site that explains how to remove the lines http://www.sewline-product.com/qa

This is what you can use to get the stubborn blue pen out so see if it helps.
If your blue soluble marker does not wash out, try the following: ¼teaspoonbakingsoda ¼cuphotwater Pour over marked area and the blue disappears forever. |
Use Shout Out or Spray & Wash and take your
thumbnail and rub it in on the line and then re-wash. Next time before you throw it into the washer use the Spray & Wash on it first. |
I had a sewline. I didn't care for it very well. I thought it didn't mark well--the lead would break and so on.

I love Sewline pencils. I use plain water and a soft child's toothbrush to gently brush the lines away (going with the grain), but I've only used the white and the gray. Using an eraser stretches the fabric too much, imho.
ETA: If you've dried your quilt in a dryer, the marks may now be heat set. |
no matter what you want to use to mark your quilt you should always test to make sure it will come out---every time- it might come out of one then not out of the next---save yourself aggrivation and ALWAYS TEST.
try an oxyclean paste- brushed into the lines- or if your fabrics can handle it you could try spray & wash- or shout... if you heat set the lines- they will probably fade with time. or the oxyclean or other spot treatment might help. |
I haven't used the Sewline but I did have a similar problem with blue chalk. I discovered that it wasn't the quilt but the quilting cotton thread that I couldn't get the colour out of. It did eventually become less visible (several washes) in time but it never completely came out. I hope some of the solutions suggested work for you, it is soooo disappointing after all that work.

I'm winia's friend who had the same problem, lines (pink and also green) that wouldn't come out. I used the Sewline eraser and it didn't do the job. I've had no problem with the white Sewline. Someone here mentioned the Sewline website so I'll check that out.

I went to the Sewline website, and there is a mention that the dye is weak and it doesn't hold up in sunlight. After I
washed the quilt, I put it outside for several hours in the sunlight to dry. I am about to press it, but as I went over it, I could not see any green markings. So, the answer seems to be sunlight. Cross my fingers. |
