There are several posts on here for how to make string quilts. That is a good place to start. They are easy. We have pictures, links to directions and our own advice all over in here. Do a search at the top of the page, type "anybody making string quilts" and they will pop up. Also 9 patch quilts are real easy and there are links on here for them as well.

Start simple! Save the complex for later.

My very first quilt was a sampler. Got to make lots of different blocks and learned a whole lot real fast! Happens when you're teaching yourself!

I'd recommend a nine-patch to start with or any nine-patch variation.

There, that's my two-cents worth! And that's about all it's worth!

with inflation, it's now worth at least a dime. :wink:

my advice is to NEVER assume you can't do something. KNOW you WILL learn how once you're ready and determined.

there are things i'm still not good at. yet. someday.

keep heading toward "someday". the trip will be way more fun than actually getting there. :P

I have (almost) finished my first quilt. When I get the edges bound, I'll be posting a picture of it. It is a rail fence pattern and for a beginning quiter, it is perfect. I actually "bought" a pattern for it (I'll even make you a copy if you would like---send a PM) and found the directions easy to follow. Watching the blocks go together was so satisfying for me and it looked a whole lot more complicated than it was. What fun!

my very first quilt was a double sized demin quares. I never knew demin could be so heavy until I made that one. I like doing squares, easier for me since I can't see as well as I used to, (isn't getting older rough) I have done 4 patch, 9 patch, around the world, all go together easy and fast.

I like to also recomend the Eleanor Burns Log Cabin Book. My first three quilts were in fact queen size log cabins from her book. She has everything figured out for you and inserts tips along the way. I attribute my love of quilting to watching Eleanor on my local PBS station. :lol:
