shadow box calculations for rectangles.

I am planning to make a shadow quilt wall hanging using 30 mini postage stamp rectangles from zebra patterns. They look like postage stamps from various places. https://zebra-patterns-consumer.mysh...s-statestamps™. I ordered them today and am excited to design this wall hanging. They are 6x7 rectangles. I am looking for a pattern or advice on how to calculate the shadow borders for this size rectangle. I am not good at conceptualizing or improvizing size. Also, do you have any suggestiosn for colors to use for the shadows since each "stamp" contains various colors. I see many ideas online but they are all mostly for squares, not rectangles. Any suggestions on how to calculate this are appreciated. I want the shadows to look like shadows!!

Those are pretty interesting blocks. I don’t know what size to tell you but I would use some scrap fabric cut to size and see what looks good to my eye. Can’t wait to see what you come up with

My calculations - hopefully correct.

Cut 6" strip from 'shadow' fabric
Cut 2" strip from background fabric.

Sew together lengthwise, then cut into 1.5" units.(or your chosen width)

Sew one to the long side of the 'stamp', then another to the bottom side.
Make as many as required.

Join these blocks with sashing

I like those; I couldn't find a price for all, so guess if you wanted them all it'd cost you $300. Wow On the color I'd probably use a gray color or a gray grunge. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

ooh...gray grunge... good idea.... I will audition blocks when they arrive. I reluctantly had to limit the amount of blocks to get because of the wall space where the quilt will be hanging.. I got our favorite national parks and cities that we have visited over the years. I actually bought some of them in gift shops while traveling .They are much less expensive from the website!
