does anybody know anything about Shadow Dancer. i've noticed that she used to post pics & chat etc and i haven't seen her on in quite some time. i even sent her a pm once and never got an answer. wondering if she is sick or what, anybody know anything about her? i was just concerned.

ScubaK 07-18-2009 09:27 PM

A lot of the "senior" (older/first joining members) don't seem to be posting as much anymore...
Kinda makes me sad cuz when I joined the board there were some really special quilters out there...
Made this board really fun, educational and supportive and it helped a newbie like me!!!
I miss 'em all...

Let's hope she is on vacation, or that her computer went down. I haven't seen her on for a while now.

tlrnhi 07-18-2009 10:25 PM

Shadow is doing fine.
She'll be back soon and let you all know what's been going on.

Bevanger 07-19-2009 04:27 AM

thanks for letting us know. i miss alot of our older gals too. sure wish they'd come back.

patricej 07-19-2009 04:51 AM

why do you assume they're gone? maybe they're just lurkin' more than postin'.

send out some pms ... see who nibbles.

Bevanger 07-19-2009 04:56 AM

i have sent pms with no answers. like craftybug. we used to talk alot off the forum. i lost her email when my computer died :(

Rose Marie 07-19-2009 06:19 AM

I miss them too. But I understand because you eventually get tired of posting the same advice over and over again. Im sure they are lurking.
Just need to find the right question to spark thier attention.

Bevanger 07-19-2009 06:31 AM

i understand. i keep thinking maybe i'm on here too much. i mean i'm almost at 9 thousand msgs..... but i love it on here. i guess i really should slow down a bit :(

Joan 07-19-2009 06:36 AM

Yes, I've written her as well with no replies.

I had hoped that all of us as a community would be a support
to her. I know (from the little I DO actually know) that this has been a
trying time for her.

We just want her to know that we think about her and wish her
well!

dojo36 07-19-2009 07:00 AM

the last i heard from her - i had mentioned quitting smoking and she asked me how i quit. this was all in pm's. i told her i asked God to take away my desire for a cigarette and HE did. it's been little over a year now that i quit and I never craved a cigarette. that's the last i heard from her. my keyboard is nasty dirty, how does everybody clean their keyboard? mine gets crumbs and cat hair & no tellin what else. i've deep cleaned it before with a Q tip & alcohol, and i shake crumbs out of it but it's still dirty.

Bevanger 07-19-2009 07:17 AM

I turn my keyboard upside down and spray it with canned air. Works for me.... :D

tlrnhi 07-19-2009 07:35 AM

We are supposed to clean the keyboard? lol

dvseals 07-19-2009 08:19 AM

I actually take mine (keyboard) completely apart bout once every 3 months..
stick all the plastic parts in warm soapy water and give 'm a good scrubbing
then rinse in hot water.
Just make sure you DON'T get the lil wafer thin plastic thing with all the squiggly things on it inside wet anywhere..
even a lil water can cause problems.
then I spend an hr or more making sure all the plastic pieces are dry.
I'll use q-tips and blow dryer and even smack 'm on a towel to get all the moisture out of them.

Hope Shadow's doing okies and pops in when she can :)

dojo36 07-19-2009 10:29 AM

you mean u take all the keys off? i'd never get them back on in the same place. oh i guess i could take a pic of it before i took it apart, huh, is that what u did? do they pop off easily? what do you use to pop them off?

Shemjo 07-19-2009 10:40 AM

Praying for Shadow's triumphant return.

cutebuns 07-19-2009 10:59 AM

I know that part of it is that she was moving, so that along with everything else, she is probably taking a break and trying to get settled in.

i loved getting settled in my new home, but i sure hated moving. i hope she enjoys her new place and we get to see pics.

Janstar 07-19-2009 07:10 PM

I've been wondering about her too. Be looking foreward to seeing her back!

Actually mine are pretty well stuck into the frame of the keyboard.. not had any pop out yet.
Only thing I've had probs with is the lil rubber things that are underneath them that stick to the circuit board (that really thin flimsy thing inside keyboard with all the squiggly lines) they tend to move on me when I go to put it back together lol.

Staples and Office Depot have very inexpensive vacuums for the keyboards, and they have enough suction to get into the crevices. They do a good job.

Quilt4u 07-22-2009 11:53 AM

Be glad when she returns. I miss her beautiful quilts.

dojo36 07-22-2009 12:20 PM

i did pop a couple of mine out and got them back in ok. that vac clnr thing sounds good but mine has gross stuff in it that a vac wouldn't get out. i eat all time at computer

Funny about this topic - I've been wondering the same thing - where's Shadow? Watch, she'll be back with some masterpiece.

I don't know about the keyboard on a laptop, but a separate keyboard pops apart really easily. A staple remover works great, or a flat screwdriver.

I taught keyboarding one year and re-arranged the letters so there was no help if the kids looked at their fingers. I believe everyone should learn to touch-type!

I don't clean mine. I don't eat over it and it is in a room that is closed off to the cats in the daytime. Occasionally I buy a new one, they are cheap. The old one goes to the charity shop.

that's probably what i need to do - buy a new one

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 07-23-2009 06:40 AM

Keyboards are pretty cheap, but before you toss it, run it through the dishwasher. I'm NOT kidding. Just make sure you air dry it for like, 6 days or someting, to make sure it's really dry.
Microsoft warns against it, but I've never come across anyone who's had problems. Besides, if you're going to buy a new one, what have you got to lose?

or google it, there are tons of sites about this

Rose Marie 07-23-2009 07:02 AM

I have a cover for mine so it dosnt get that dirty. I windex it sometimes.
I cover my printer also.
I miss you too Shadow. Moving is a big job, we will see you soon I hope.

With many of us in the summer season, it's possible many are just outside enjoying the summer weather. I find I'm not online as much in the summer as I am in the other seasons. Many people are probably out of town, summer travel, etc. I'm sure more people will surface when the weather begins to cool down.

I still lurk here, but mostly here at work or the occasional looksie when I'm home in the evenings when the sun is gone down!!!

Cheers

I've never put mine through the dishwasher, but I do dunk it in a sink of hot soapy water and swish it around! :-)
The key is to make sure it's absolutely dry, before using it again.
