Happy Earth Day Everyone!
To celebrate lets share our Eco friendly tips. Mine is an oldie, I saw online somewhere. Roll premade bindings on a paper towel tube. This prevents the tangle mess when applying to the quilt. Great for storage til later also. What is yours? |
Today I am going to sew on my treadle machine.
I take my washed, 100% cotton, "too small for anything else" scraps and chop them up into fluff. Then I put the fluff into an onion bag and hang it outside for the birds to use.
I hang my quilts on the line to dry.
Love making scrappy quilts with the sew & flip method. I can use really small pieces.
I don't know how eco friendly it is .. but I throw all my threads and small scraps into the yard for the birds and small animals
Also I try to cut/sew out on my front porch as often as possible, use the natural sunlight instead of extra inside lights ! |
I save everything -- cut off threads, small/tiny scraps, batting fluff. I have a special 'garbage can' (lined with a grocery bag) for these bits I don't want. When the bag gets full I donate it to a local group that makes pet beds for an animal shelter -- they use it for stuffing! It feels great having absolutely no quilting waste :)
I also save everything and when my little trash can gets full, I empty it into an old pillowcase that I tie shut with an elastic hair tie. This is my dog's favorite bed.
I don't put strings outside because I have chickens and they eat everything along with getting strings wrapped around their feet and toes. |
