Sharpening blades

A while back (and I don't remember where) I saw an ad for something that could be used to sharpen the round razor blades. I just thought of this as I was once again putting in a new blade. Those blades aren't cheap! So I'm wondering if anyone has ever used anything to sharpen the blades.

JoAnns sells a gadget that's inexpensive and works pretty well on rotary cutting blades. I don't remember what it's called but you could find it in either the quilting notions, the regular notions wall, or perhaps by the rotary cutting tools. Ask someone, that always works too.

I have never found ANYTHING that works better than a new blade. I even had someone who had access to machinery that sharpens equipment and they STILL were not that sharp. I just have to be careful in not hitting any corners of my acrylic ruler.

When/if you find that these blade sharpeners don't work well for you, you can buy 45mm blades in 5 or 10 packs for a good price at Hancocks of Paducah. And they are on sale right now!

Nothing I have tried has worked. I paid a hefty price for one that made burrs on the blade. Best bet is to find a reliable source for new blades and bless the worn out one and let it go. froggintexas

I've heard of a few things, but am too chicken to try. Would rather have a proper new one.

I bought a blade sharpener and never got it to work right. Get new ones!

First, nothing is as good as a fresh-from-the-package new blade. But I have the Grace Company Tru Sharp electric sharpener and it does an okay job. Of course you could buy quite a few new blades for the cost so if you want to try it, wait until JoAnns has a 50% coupon.

I also found 5 packs of blades at Walmart online for under $20(in the US.)

I have a sharpener and use it quite a bit. I have a cutter labeled "2" (meaning re-used blade) and use it for trimming and cutting paper. I would not use it for cutting fabric, but it does help save my "good new" blades.

If you sharpen a sharp blade it will never dull. It's hard to sharpen a dull blade.
