Sharpening rotary cutter blades....

I read that you can sharpen rotary cutter blades by folding up a piece of aluminum foil and repeatedly cutting it with the dull blade...several said it worked for them....has anyone ever done this and did it work foe you?

Sounds dangerous to me. I have the electric Tru-Cut rotary blade sharpener. It really works and will pay for itself in no time. Now I don't ever have to cut with a dull blade.

Don't know if it works with blades, but it does with scissors.

It works..I've used this several times. I am going to buy the Tru-Cut sharpener when I get paid for this quilt top I am piecing and I should finish it today if I could just get off this quilting board! LOL...

I have done this and it works, both for cutting blades and fabric scissors. It is quite safe to do and only takes a few minutes.

Haven't tried that trick, but have that round turny thing where you sharpen blades by hand. Can't recall it's proper name.

I have one like this also. Works great and I can get more use out of each blade. I'm thinking of getting the Tru-Cut.

I tried sharpening blades with aluminum foil, and it ended up making the blade more dull than it was originally. The cheap sharpeners don't work for me either. I may try one of the new electronic sharpeners when I can afford it.

I tried it and all it did was make a big mess. The blade was still dull.
