Sharpie Autographs
 

Hello!
I am making an autograph block for Virginia Quilt Museum Block Challenge.
What would I use to sign the block?
Can I use a permanent "Sharpie"?

not sure, you should try it out. I've been in swaps and used Micron Pigma pens .05 size. i always heat set after dry and they stayed well.

Sharpie pens can bleed. I have used the Zig pens used for Scrapbooking on my quilt labels. They have held up well so far and they come in a variety of colors.

The Micron pen I used on my daughter’s baby blanket is still there 18 years later.

Sharpies bleed. Micron Pigma only here.

I have always used the Micron Pigma .05. They are available at Hobby Lobby.

Micron pigma pens are a better choice than a sharpie. Sharpies blued/ fuzz around the edges when writing on fabric.

The best one I have used is called Pentel Arts Gel Roller for fabric. I buy a package at Amazon as they are hard to find in stores. It writes on fabric smooth and very black. No bleeding or blurs.

The dark circles were made by a Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric pen with a 1.0 mm Ball.
I think I ordered them through Amazon.
I learned about them while reading about using Inktense pencils.
I was messing around with the Inktense pencils.
This piece of fabric had been soaked in hot water for several hours and then washed.

Sharpie also washes out after several washes. Not so "permanent" as they say it is....

They are the very best.

Same advice as everyone else.... I have a container full of pens I've experimented with !!

In my experience, Sharpies make a mess of fabric. I think that Crayola makes a pen that does not wash out. Remember to iron freezer paper to the back of the fabric that you will write on.

Thanks for asking this ScubaK, I use a pigma pen but on fabric they don't always glide smoothly for me, so I just ordered the gel pens on Amazon!

there are 2 brands of fabric marking pens in JoAnn's in the section by the kid's crafts. One is a finer tip than the other, but both work very nicely for autographs--permanent and actually write better on fabric that what I've found with Pigma. Of course I can not remember the brand name!

Yes to Micron!!! Say No to Sharpie!!!!

Micro Pen. Heat set. They won't bleed or smear.

I think it is worth it to use pens made for fabric.
