Sharpie Permanent Pens or paint pens
Have any of you used these pens? Do they hold up to numerous washings? Are the paint pens better?
|
Sharpie permanent markers are not intended for use on fabric and they say so on the package. The edges bleed into the fabric and the colors fade with every wash. Are you looking for pens for labels or for something like surface design?
|
For writing, most quilters use Pigma pens. If you test a Sharpie on fabric, you will see that it bleeds.

My oldest daughter and my son are heavy duty washers and both their labels are still readable after more than a year. I used a Pigma pen. I used Sharpies to color a floral arrangement I drew on one, but the flowers are outlined in the black Pigma pen so their bleeding wasn't an issue.

I was going to use them on fabric, for outlining.

I experimented with Sharpies. The color ran into the fibers when applied. When washing the piece, the color bled into the water and also onto nearby fabric.

Thanks, that answers my question. I will stay away from those.
