Shemtz needles

I did not know there were so many types of Shemtz. I bought Shemtz universal size 70. So went back to buy more (50% off). Now I see there's a pink pk. called quilting needles & twice the price. Which ones should I buy.

If you look down the page a bit you can download a guide which tells you all about the different needles and what they are used for

I personally use Topstitch 90, for just about everything...topstitch needles give you a bigger eye, less fray on the thread...... that is what is recommended by Superior Thread.....a 70 needle is way way too small for like super dine heriloom fabric....

I don't like Universals because I want a sharper point. And with batiks and other high thread count fabrics, a Microtex is highly recommended. They're wonderful.

I changed the 70 for an 80. I have tried the titamun( is microtex similar) & my machine doesn't like them. I've in a pinch tried the $store needles & no problems. I never use batiks. I think I'm the only person I know who does not like batiks.LOL.

nope you are not the only person. Batiks are special for the people that like them however i only ever used them once. Not a favorite of mine either.

I don't like universal needles either. I use quilting needles for piecing. They're made to go thru several layers of fabric and I almost always use the 75/11 size because I use a finer thread. For quilting I use the topstitch needles in either the 80/12 or 90/14 depending on what size thread I'm using. I have a couple of threads that I go up to a 100/16 for. You match the size of the needle to the size of your thread and the type of needle to the type of fabric you're sewing.

I don't use Batiks either, so you are not alone.

A local shop owner who also teaches nationally recommends the topstitch needles. Says that is all she uses. The subject of this thread is needles, how did it get changed to batiks? I love 'em!
