Shine

What do I use to get rid of the shine on my black fabric after pressing it? I made a door runner and where there are some seams the black fabric is shiny. Some of it really stands out to me. I use best press and my iron is clean. How come this comes out shiny sometimes?

I don't know if this would help now that you have ironed it, but it might: Try using a pressing cloth between the quilt and the iron.

When pressing black, I find it helps to have a piece of cloth on top of the black fabric. Sometimes a damp facecloth wiped over the spot will help remove the shine.

Iron shine is very hard to get rid of. That's one of the reasons I use a pressing cloth when pressing on the right side of fabrics.

I found this online. I do remember someone telling me that vinegar and water will get rid of the shine, but I've never actually tried it.

I have used vinegar and water on a pressing cloth to prevent shine on men's slacks. In the old days this was standard.

Learned this from my mother: Black should always be ironed/pressed on the back. But she was not a quilter,so she was talking about slacks, shirts and skirts.

I don't recall ever having that problem.

I would think prewashing fabrics and washing a finished quilt may take it away.

I spray the Best Press on the RIGHT side of the fabric, and iron on the WRONG side.
