shopping in Pennsylvania
I am going to Pittsburgh in about 10 days and would like to know if there are any quilt shops near downtown. Later this summer, I am going to Philadelphia and would like to visit quilt shops there. I will have a car on this trip, but not on the first one.

I would use Google because that will show you the locations of the quilt shops. Hopefully someone lives nearby and can give you thumbs up or down on the LQS.

Not familiar with the Pittsburgh area at all. For the Philly area, there is 'fabric row' in Center City (downtown) but not much there in the way of quilting fabrics. All of the 'quilt' shops that I am familiar with are outside the city limits. Most familiar with those in NJ. Some not too far from Philly but not sure what time/distance constraints you may have. If you are interested in those - give a holler and I'll give you what I know for sure.

Sixty miles from Philly is Intercourse, PA......I was there.....it was AWESOME. Easy to walk around, LOTS of shops including shops with fabric about 20% less than I could get in Oregon. If you can do it, check it out....it's an amazing town.

None downtown. The Quilt Company (owner and Creative Grid- Scrap Happy- designer Karen Montgomery's shop) is in Allison Park just north of Pittsburgh. http://www.thequiltcompany.com/about...t-company.aspx Karen has a large store complete with great fabric, patterns including her own designs, and many great examples. In the back is an area with a perpetual array of discounted fabrics. Now you would just need a car! If I still lived there, I would be your driver and quilt shop host! Enjoy your stay in Pittsburgh! Great city with a tremendous theatre scene- just in case you can't get out to TQC.

Intercourse pa has a few shops. There is old country store, Zooks, the Fabric shack a little down the road and the the Log Cabin, and on route 30 is Dutchland quilts. It's worth the trip. Have fun. There are other places to visit that sell quilts too.

Great Store on Penn Ave strip district, asst. fabrics, lots of unusual buttons, nice staff. Forgot name, but look on net in yellow pages. Lots of open air shops in strip district, cheaper souvineers. Enjoy Pgh. Former Pittsburgher, still love it not the weather. Carniege museum in Oakland one of best in country. Pgh has about 5 quilt. stores. Look in row by Row experience to find shops in both areas.
