I increased the size of a pattern. I wanted 4 2 1/2" strips so I cut the main strips 10"... Forgot to allow for corrections, etc. So, after all was said and done, I was approximately 1/3 " short and was able to get only 3 2 1/2 strips out of each 10" strip with 2" "wasted" fabric. Of course I had cut all the fabric 10". So the moral of this story, is allow for wastage. Grrr

Oh well, I'll use the 2" X 2 1/2 strips for the binding.

The story continues - I looked at the picture in the book and only gave the instructions a glance... It was a simple quilt. Well, I had make strips of 4 2 1/2" blocks when I was only supposed to make strips of 2 2 1/2" blocks. Thank goodness for t.v. because I had a lot of unsewing to do.

I've been quilting for about 12 years and you'ld think I'ld know better. In future, I promise to read the instructions first :!:  :!:

Been there and done that. I'd like to say next time you'll know better, but for me...not necessarily. I've done it more than once! Silly me! That's why I always overbuy on fabric, just in case.

Don't feel to bad, we have all done that at one time or another.

I just call it "improvising". :)

I cut a bunch of sashing to small. I am saving it for another quilt. It happens, I just re group and go on. I was doing a quilt one time with "stash" and there was an error in the cutting instructions. I did not have extra fabric for this quilt so I left off one of the boarders.

We have all been there. Just smile and say I'll remember this next time.

Just the other day, I had one of those days. I was trying to cut sashing and no matter what I did I couldn't get 1 4 1/2 inch 34 and 1/2 inches long cut. I ended up with pieces 9 1/2 inches, 11 1/2 inches, 32 1/2 inches. I had to stop and do something else or my rotary cutter and I were going to come to blows over it.

Whew!!! It's not only me??? Recently I was cutting large background pieces to do machine applique onto, and without thinking cut them to 12-1/2 x 24, instead of 12-1/2 x 24-1/2. So, now each one will have a little strip sewn onto the bottom edge. I am NOT going to waste all that fabric!! Like you said, I should have known better, but got in a hurry, not paying attention, .....

Yep, I think we all have those days

We have all had the same thing happen. Just remember......there are no mistakes in quilting, only creative adjustments!
