I'm working on my learner's quilt right now. And I've bought the pattern for three geisha panel quilts. But I keep wondering what kind of quilt for my bedroom. It isn't decorated at all really but I do need to encorporate a cream and brown braid rug and blue/green carpet into the design. And then there is the golden oak pedastool bed with bookcase head board. Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm drawn to art and applique quilts. I'd appreciate any advice you have. Maybe you know of a quilt gallery on line that focuses on those types of quilts? |

On art and applique quilts, this site has some good pictures of both categories

Very pretty Mema I love the colors.

I also love applique!!! You can take it anywhere and do it. I've rode in the car, sat in the doctor's office, at my childs sporting events, town meetings, watched TV, etc. The problem is there is so many different types of applique. Baltimore, folk, etc. Do you have a preference? I personally like a lot of the Baltimore. I'm currently on the fence about my bedroom also and considering doing this. I googled free applique patterns and came up with all sorts. Here's one for you.

That's really pretty, Mema

That's an adorable quilt thanks for the pictures. I'm not sure I would try scallops yet.
And thank you for the links. I'm going to check them all out and see if they narrow down the field any. I'd like to do two window quilts, a bed quilt, and then add a table topper for the end table since it doesn't match the bed. |
I'm thinking I would like the bed quilt to be an old time-y map of the world (antique gold) with a compass rose in the center. With the points being in the brown, cream, and golden yellow colors. And have the land masses have hand embroidered labels like "There be Dragons Here" and "Land of the Flying Horses" etc. Then the window Quilts could be a pegasus and the other one a dragon. With the table topper maybe a victorian lady sleeping on her lounger. Ohhh now I'm excited. That sounds like dream central to me.
Thanks you so much for the help. I had no idea when I started. |
Its fun when the light bulb goes on isn't it!!!  Enjoy!!
|
It sure is. I'm glad I got it all together. I was a complete blank. I moved into my home a year and a half ago. And I've been going slow getting stuff because I want this to be my final move. So I want things to be personal to me. This really fills the bill.

"We have a problem Huston..."
I started designing this and realized it wouldn't work for my bedroom. My bed is a twin. This design requires a double at least, because the pattern is wider than it is tall. So I'm going to continue looking for inspiration. I'm sure that the perfect bedroom is out there just waiting for me to find it. If my tastes weren't so diverse I'd be having better luck. How do you put together, Asian Patterns, European Dragons, Pegasus', Victorian Ladies, Victorian Memorabilia (shoes, hats etc.,), and 1920's poster art? I know pick one and go with it right? "But I want it all!" said the spoiled little girl lol. Just shoot me. |
How many rooms do you have in your house? :D Do each in a different theme! Just start one!! :D
|
I'd need to add a few rooms to get everything in.
I guess I could use "like" color combinations and then change them out seasonally? |
Do we ever have enough room? 3 yrs this spring my husband and I bought the biggest house I've owned and I still don't have enough room for everything. And let me say we have HOWED!! Don't understand, maybe I need more howing!!!
|
I have a double wide trailer with 3 bedrooms and two baths. The funny thing is there is only me living here. I have a bedroom, computer room, and crafting room so really I have all the space i need. It's just that I've never had the time and money to decorate so I want to try everything I've ever thought was pretty. And there is more pretty than house lol.
So if I can find a way to combine some of them that would be really cool. |
Got one better!! 3 bdrms, 3 bthrms, formal LR, formal DR, very lg family rm & sunroom, a basement and garage. We had 2 houses to combine into one. Only 3 people + 1 every other weekend, a dog & cat live here. My sunroom is only 3 season, but I think I'm taking it over, it has great light!!! The only thing is is does get really hot in the summer. No way to AC it. Right now sewing in FR everything is always a mess!! Can't figure out where I'm going to be comfortable. Maybe DR at some point. Always going back and forth!!! Definitely not the set-up I used to have.
|
I can understand that. the master bedroom is my craft room because I knew I would need more room to craft than I would to sleep.
I have one bookshelf, one ironing board, one hope chest, one sewing cabinet and two closets so far. I'm hoping to add a center work table so I can have my dinningroom back. And I want to move my tv in there too along with a dvd player so I can buy craft dvd's and watch them in there. Then I can get a flat screen for the livingroom. So many plans so little money. lol. |
we have a sun room and DH put a heater/air conditioner combo in one of the lower windows it just right all the time. of course we don't use it a lot in the winter because it cost to heat or cool it. i thought about using it for sewing but all my stuff would not fit. two machines a 4 by 7 cutting table, shelves p.c. and desk. im in the basement sewing room
mema |
The windows in the sunroom won't accommodate an air conditioner. Believe me if there was a way to put on in there I would have!! :D Transistion is always fun! Not all my stuff will fit, material will be somewhere else, but I could get all the sewing stuff together. Don't know!
|
They have those portable air conditioners now. Would something like that work?
|
yes it would, then u need a heater too

No. I have very large windows that open to the side and no place up above to put a fixed one in. I'll get it together!! I read some of this to DH and now he's thinking!!! One of my problems is that I hate basements unless I have a TV going for noise, plus when we first moved in we had mice. Their all gone, but still YUK!!!! Now that DH is thinking, maybe something will transpire!
|
my sewing room is in the basement and dh has sprayed around the house so no bugs or mice he put in carpet and paneling so its nice i am down there so much that he calls me groundhog or child under the stairs. lol any way its not bad at all i would like some sun light so when i have hand work like binding i sit in the sun room to sew. i also have a quilting frame in the other part of the basement near the washer and dryer. it works
