Should I finish my grandmother quilt by hand or can I just quilt it on my machine? It has been sitting around for the last year, sandwiched and ready to be quilted, started to hand quilt it and did not like the way it was turning out. Took it apart, re-sandwiched it and have not touched it for 6 months. I know it could have been finished by now. My great-grandmother started the top by hand, my grandmother finished the top by machine and now I have the task of finishing the quilt. was going to give it to my dad for Christmas but that is not going to happen now. So what is the answer to my dilemma? :?:
Honestly I do not know what I would be happier doing with it.

If your grandmother finished piecing by machine, I would machine quilt it. JMHO

That's a hard one. I can see your ambivalence. I would hand quilt it but I said I, not YOU.
You should do whatever gets it finished in the way you want.

What can you do while you watch TV in the evenings? That would be what decides it for me...Blessings

I'd machine quilt it!

If it's had machine work done it already, then go ahead and machine quilt it!

I think you should do whatever it takes to get the quilt finished. I'd machine quilt it. Sounds like a nice progression from great-grandmother (hand sewn) to grandmother (machine sewn) to you (machine quilted).

I would do the quilting on the machine & when finished add a lable on the back of the quilt with an explanation. My grandmother had started lots of TOPS & when she passed away my mother sandwiched some of them I quilted them & one was passed to my youngest daughter as a wedding gift. The lable on the back said " Top made by Grandma ___ Worked on by _____ Quilted by ____ Given to ____ on date.

I would machine quilt it too.

I had a top that my great-grandmother had hand-embroidered. She had machine pieced it. I knew that she would have hand-quilted it if she would have been able to finish it herself, so that's what I did. I worked 8 hours a day for 30 days straight, and gave it to my mother as a Christmas present. I put the story of the quilt on the label. I love how it turned out!
