I finally used my embroidery machine to do some embroidery on quilt borders.
But now I'm wondering should I quilt through the embroidery or jump over it?
thanks

I would jump over, maybe echo the embroidery..

depends on what you are doing. You have to do something in the embroidery or it will sag. you could do something just to tack it down or quilt right through it.

jump or you will disfigure the embroidery

99% of my quilt clients with embroidery on the front or back of the quilt get quilting through the embroidery. Doing so "includes" the embroidery pattern or fonts rather than setting it apart from the quilt by echoing. Make you 2 sample patchs of embroidery, maybe a 4x4, exactly alike, adding batting and back. Sew through the embroidery on one with your regular machine and let the other be sewn with a border around it with the sewing machine. Then be safe and ask your friend or client which they prefer. My personal preference is to quilt through it. Maybe not a much as other areas of the quilt, but include the embroidery.

If it's just on the borders and it's not too big quilt all around it. If it's huge you're going to have to quilt through it. Whatever you do - make it blend.

I wouldn't. it tends to break needles and just cause problems. It really depends on how dense the design.

Go around it unless it's very large. Then just a little accent to hold it in place. I usually "frame" them with a specific pattern.

Thanks. I'm going to use cross hatch quilting.
I embroidered their last name on the top and bottom borders using 3" font....and I also embroidered a 5x5"design in the border corners.
I'm using a domestic machine to do the quilting so I don't have much room to manuever. But I think I'll quilt a frame around the whole name and tack it down in between the letters.
