I seen in a Clotilde catalog a cloth to hang on the wall to attach your blocks on to choose your layout on. It looked like a big piece of flannel.
Would a piece of flannel purchased in fabric store work. Any suggestions would be welcomed, as you can tell I'm new. |
It would be called a "Design Wall". I think flannel would work. Many many of the folkes on her have made their own and you will probably be getting some really good suggestions here shortly!!

Sure it would. I use a square of flannel when I need to lay out a single block. Another thing you can use is a piece of thin cotton batting.

You can buy a large size piece (width and length) to hang on your wall or put it on your bed or floor to layout your pieces. If on the wall just pin up your pieces. I have mine in my half of the garage. LOL. It works great out there. Sometimes I put it on the bed to take the squares to the machine.

I just had a week long thread about making a design wall. It's so simple, and very inexpensive. Some just use a flannel backed table cloth from the Dollar store. This version folds up to get out of the way. If you have a large wall and plenty of space, making one more permanent would be a great thing for you.

I like to use cotton batting like warm and natural. It is a bit thicker and I can easily pin the blocks if I have fans going or windows open nearby :D:D:D

Masonite covered with batting and then flannel. Works great! (Batting was optional but I wanted to be able to use pins on it as well.)

Mine is really fancy -- I put a flannel backed table cloth on the wall (flannel side out) using some long sewing pins. The table cloth was on sale for a couple of bucks, they come in a variety of sizes and if you want to move it, very little damage to the wall. I really have a difficult time buying into some of the expensive quilting stuff out there.

Thanks for all the great ideas!! I knew someone would have a more frugal way to have a design wall!!
