Shouldn't sew late at night because...

Can you add to this list?
  • Only needed 5 rows to complete the quilt. Now have 6.
  • Too many matchy colors close together.
  • Printed the same pattern twice.
  • Sewed the block wrong...2 times.

bearisgray 07-03-2022 05:56 AM

Cut the pieces wrong.

Forgot to turn the iron off.

Had just enough fabric. Now I don't.

Worked so hard to get the top finished. Woke up to see one block wrong--in the middle.

Finished the last lot of chain piecing to find I ran out of bobbin thread waaaaay back there!

hmmm...I've done all those things, and I can't use "late at night" as an excuse.

Lol. I can't either. I've done them when I wasn't tired!

Rips out part of the block sewn backward and sew it backwards again.

Things seem so complicated when I'm tired, easy peasy when refreshed in the morning.

I try to not leave any mistakes late at night, I take them apart and then they are ready to work on the next morning. I find if I work too late, I either mess it up or hurt myself.

Sometimes it's better for me if I leave bad enough alone for the time being when I'm really tired or out of sorts.

Deal with it when I am better able to cope with whatever - - -

I work nights, most of my quilting is done at night. However, I have done all of the above. I just can’t blame it on working at night.

Yup. This one's particularly humiliating. Does wonders for your confidence level.

Read the instructions several times to make sure I knew how to assemble the block, then still did it wrong.

Been there, done that Sandy

Because some of the other people that live with me think I should be in bed at 2 am instead of sewing.

What do other people know? Why would you listen to them?

My problem isn't too late at night...It's way too early in the morning. I'm usually awake by 2 or 3 am and down in the sewing room.

I guess the phrase "haste makes waste" holds true for quilting also.

I was happily chain-piecing late at night, after everyone (hubby and 2 grown sons) were in bed. Felt a creepy crawly slither down my leg. Screamed bloody murder and brought every single man in the house on a dead run. Turned out the creepy crawly was just the far end of my chain piecing..... 😲 I'm not allowed to chain-piece late at night anymore.... 🤣

Help. I can't stop laughing.

Ouch! glad all was OK after the iron was left on and hopefully you had enough fabric to cut a new piece. Both of those I have done and not that long ago.

Nesie 07-06-2022 03:18 PM

I was making a zippered pouch. You are supposed to make sure you don't unzip it all the way when sewing or the teeth will be separated. I zoned out and actually unzipped it, not once, but twice and had to replace the pull. If you've every tried that, its not the easiest to do lo!. The third time was the charm.

aashley333 07-07-2022 04:09 AM

I don't cut fabric or figure measurements when I'm tired. I also don't trust judgement decisions. If I make a mistake, I quit sewing, and fix it tomorrow.
