Candi - I love your placemats! Simple enough that I wouldn't be upset if something was spilled on them, but interesting design - and perfect proportions!

I was going to ask if everyone created these beautiful placements - all the time, money, skills and talents, and then your family and friends actually eat meals on these work of art? I just know that I would be the very first to drop wine, tea, blueberries, oh well, you get the idea. That left hand problem. And my entire family seems to have problems eating without those nasty spills.

Thanks

Thank you. It wasn't a pattern, I just kind of put it together. I used I believe ''4.5 squares and 4.4x8.5'' rectangles and just put them together as you see, each row two squares and one rectangle and then put three rows together, easy peesy.

I imagine that you start with a foundation of the size plus a little more, that you want the finished mat to be, is that true? Also, do you begin stitching on the strings in the middle of the foundation the way you normally would with any other string pieced block?

Candi

THANKS so much! I'm going to try this with some fall colors with a black background leaf print that has been waiting in my stash for too long. :)

Thank you for this thread, you can learn so many techniques with these and as noted they are instant gratification.

These were fun. The pockets on each side hold the silverware.
