Show me your Winnie the Pooh baby quilts

A co-worker of mine is going to have a baby in September & they are leaning toward a Winnie the Pooh theme. I'd like to make a quilt with that theme. Can I see pics of quilts that y'all have made?

I saw this one on Pinterest & it would be easy to make. I love the bright colors. I'm also thinking about maybe a rag quilt.

Let's see if this is the right picture. Oh good, yes it is. My friend wanted me to use that particular Winnie the Pooh fabric so I matched up some 9 patches with it..... It was well loved and not sure if it survived all it's loving.

I have the giant Winnie coloring book I got at WalMart that I plan to use for applique on a simple background.

Very cute quilt, Thimblebug. nanacc, that's a great idea for the applique. I thought I might have to buy fabric & fussy cut around Pooh, Tiger, etc.

LOVE this one, super cute

So many Disney fabrics come and go so I would do some serious shopping on what prints are readily available. The Pinterest quilt is cute but isn't that done with panels??? Good Luck.

osewme 05-09-2015 08:25 AM

I'm not sure what they used in that Pinterest quilt but I was thinking I could either find fabric that had the Pooh images & fussy cut & then applique them on or make my own characters & applique from scratch. If I find fabric I would probably have to make smaller center blocks & more of them because I don't think I could find ready-printed images that large. What I especially like about this quilt is the border/sashing look of it.

I bought a panel and it made a fast nice baby quilt. I used the blue colorway. I machined quilted in the ditch and diagonal lines in the border.

Onebyone, I really like that quilt & love how you made the blocks on point. Do you think I can find panels at Jo-Ann's? That would be a lot faster than piecing all those sashings & borders in the Pinterest quilt. I could still use bright colors for the baby.

Thank you but everything is the panel ! I layered, quilted and bound it. I needed a Winnie the Pooh quilt on a moment's notice. Everyone thought I cut and stitched the pieces, even the other quilters at the shower. LOL I ordered the panel online from a quilt shop.

I wish I had found panels like that when I pieced these togther.
They were my first 2 quilts and a BIG learning process.
My grandkids love them mistakes and all!
The back was the same for both of them. It is the third picture.

This is the next one but I could not decide which of the layouts I wanted.
Can you tell my family loves Winnie the Pooh?

osewme 05-09-2015 04:02 PM

kelsunshine, I like your quilts. I'm really leaning toward blocks on point on this next baby quilt I make. I need for co-worker & DH to totally commit to the Winnie the Pooh theme. hehehehe

If you type in 'Winnie the Pooh' in the search bar you will find lots and lots of Winnies, even mine is still there way back on page 9.

My avatar is a scrappy baby quilt in classic Winnie the Pooh fabric made for my first grandchild nearly 9 years ago. I don't have a photo of it on this computer. (I used the contrary wife block and rotated it to build the stars.)

My daughter did her nursery in classic Winnie the Pooh vs. Disney Winnie the Pooh. You might want to check which version the parents are doing. Classic is based on the original illustrations in A.A. Milne's books. You'll know it because Winnie does not wear a red shirt. The artwork differs from the Disney characters. When I made this quilt, JoAnn's had a line of pretty good quality fabric called the Hundred Acre Wood, which was all the classic images.

I made a Winnie the Pooh quilt for my grandson several years ago. I used an Irish chain pattern with Winnie the Pooh fabric and fussy-cut the fabric for the large squares.

Please consider contacting Marshall Dry Goods in Batesville, AR, to ask if they have Winnie the Pooh fabric or panels. I have been able to find some panels/fabric at this store when I could not locate it in any of the LQS or fabric stores.

Onebyone 05-10-2015 01:40 PM

Marshall's is fabric distributor so they have lots of the older fabric lines in stock. They have the best selection of quilt cheater cloth I've seen anywhere. And wholequilt pre marked.

My suggestion was to use a coloring book also. You can "dress" pooh and the other characters as you wish.

i might be tempted to color the pic from the color book .....kinda make them more like the original pooh

I just recently did a baby quilt using a panel of classic Winnie that I found on a website called Quilt Girls...they are located in Texas. I took colors from the panel for the boarders, then did an all-over quilted diamond pattern. I don't know how to post pictures or I would show it. This quilt was requested for her first great-grandchild, due any day. Needless to say, I felt very honored to be asked to make it.
