Show and Tell
On average, how many times a year do you participate in your guild's show and tell? What kinds of things do you bring? Only quilts? Smaller items such as tote bags, table runners, pillows?
Any opinions on what you like to see? |
I attend one guild and two quilt clubs every month. I usually bring something to every guild and club, usually a smaller wallhanging or I'll even bring something I'm working on. Others do the same. There are actually a lot of people that don't bring anything, sadly. People also bring smaller projects like bags or table runners. We all like seeing whatever anyone wants to show. There's one woman, though, that makes doll clothes and donates the clothed dolls to a charity. Although we appreciate seeing a few, sometimes she'll bring like 20 dolls. That's a bit much I think.

I bring something almost every month as I do a lot of sewing. Quilts, bags, potholders, aprons, place mats, purses, jackets, wall hangings, pincushions, etc. The guild enjoys all types of creations including knitting, fleece items, etc. It's fun to share whatever you are working on with others.

i belong to 2 guilds and 3 groups. i usually bring something every time. i recall one recent month when there was a lot going on in the family and i didn't get much creating done. i felt weird just sitting there. we have members who never show anything, also. but the show n tell line is usually very long.

I'm on a finish your UFO (my guild calls them PIGS) projects so I usually show something every month. This hasn't been hard for me as many of mine were already completed tops. My good quilting buddy is a fairly new LA owner and between the two of us, I now have a pile of finished quilts which never ever happened before. It's not hard to have a monthly finish when your main part is binding and labelling.

If I have something finished to show I'll show it. I usually have something every other meeting.

I am a member of 2 groups. One meets monthly and the sole purpose is to bring what we have done. This is a small group of only 6 but it keeps me in stitches (no pun intended). The other group meets weekly and I often have something to show. I love these groups and have learned so much from then.

I am in a senior quilter's group and mostly everyone brings an item once a month to show and tell. (We meet ever Wednesday so not everyone attends every meeting each month!)

Out Modern quilt guild has a rule that only finished quilts can be shown at Show and Tell. I usually take one 3-4 times a year (monthly meetings).

I usually show a quilt at Show and Tell during our monthly meetings. I was sick for our last meeting, so I will be showing 3 quilts at the meeting this evening. Most folks show quilts, but bags and jackets have also been shown. My favorite part of the meeting is Show and Tell. (If I don't show my quilts early, as in first or second in line, I chicken out. Everyone else has such beautiful quilts and theirs are always quilted by a long arm. I quilt on my domestic, usually SITD, which I really like the looks of. My quilts always look way different than any others. I have even been known to take a quilt and then not show it. But, I don't lose my nerve if I get towards the front of the line.)

I no longer bring Show and Tell since pictures started showing up on Facebook. Everyone has a camera on their phone now and think nothing of over sharing.

I have something to show at our monthly meetings at least 8 -10 times/year. Because sometimes there are people in the guild who end up judging at the fair, I wait with those items until after the fair. That means that my show and tell contributions bunch up a little.
We have excellent participation at show and tell, and I really enjoy seeing what others have made and getting ideas from them. For every entry a member brings, a ticket may be filled out. A drawing is done at the end of the year, and the winner wins a free membership for the next year. |
I just joined a guild a few months ago and have only been to 3 or 4 meetings. I was prepared to take a scrappy quilt to last night's meeting for show & tell but they cancelled it on account of our snow storm.

I have been participating in several swaps; so my items usually get mailed and never make it to show and tell.
|
Our small (7) group meets monthly and we share whatever we happen to be working on, just some gals getting together for fellowship and sharing.

My charity quilting group meets twice a month and we always have "Sew and Tell". We show the quilts we brought to donate, and personal quilts too. Once in a while a crocheted blanket or bag is shown too. Our group isn't large so it doesn't take that long to go around the room and show what you brought. Everybody gets excited about trying new patterns this way, too. I think it really does contribute to us all producing more.

I will take something to show if I have a finished item. This is a monthly Sewing Club at a LQS that I enjoy going to but I often feel intimidated by the other quilters projects. A lot of them do such beautiful and more advanced work. We show more than quilts, all kinds of sewing projects, embroidery, etc. I love to see everything though.

I will usually show one when I am finished with a label and that is once or twice a year. I have several UFO's so as they get done I show them. I don't have too much time to work on my own stuff as I LA quilt for others and volunteer on charity quilts.

A guild I belonged to a couple of years ago encouraged members to bring Show and Tell items to share by entering each in a drawing or giving a piece of fabric. One year it was a fat quarter for a newly finished project shown.
I like to see all kinds of projects, for inspiration, as well as "look what I found at the thrift store". |
