When SID'ing, and starting or stopping on the face of the quilt where it would be visible, what do you do to secure the stitching: shorten the stitch length, 3 or 4 stitches maybe, or backstichning?
I have a pattern where it is impossible to end the stitching where it's going to be hidden, there is just no way, what should I do? I guess I could double over stitching, but I prefer not to

I do tiny little stitches to begin.

I usually back stitch just one stitch. Then leave a nice long piece of thread on top and bottom, and I use a self-threading (cheaters needle) to sew all the ends in. No double stitching shows.

I start and end with small stitches and leave enough thread on both ends to bury.

I do this, too. I live in fear of the stitches working loose.

Thanks for the responses. To jayelee, can you figure out what the machine is doing when you use the stop option?

(I have a machine from '85 or so and the only stop option I know of is an indication we haven't paid the light bill)

Lol Sorry My Viking ties a knot when I push the stop button It took me close to three months to figure it out but it is a cool option
