Side Cutter Sewing Machine Foot Attachment

I always do it as I like the finish it gives but there is one little niggle that really get to me and that is the odd threads etc. that is left, I have tried snipping these off but on practically every occasion I snip the wrong thread and the stitching is undone!

I have googled How to use a side cutter foot and found some good tuitions but they are shown on relatively thick fabrics which is not what I want to do, does anyone have one of these attachments and as anyone got some pros n cons on them, BTW price is not a problem as I have found a compatible one at only £8/$12

I purchased a side cutter made by Brother to use on a Brother NX450Q. It did not work well and I returned it. I found others have had the same experience with the side cutter, it does not work well for most applications.

I think you're stating that you currently zigzag the edges of the quilt before applying the binding. Instead of zigzagging, you could straight stitch sew, 1/8 inches from the edge of the quilt.

No I don't zig-zag my Elna has a proper overlocking stitch, it just doesn't cut! Thanks for your input :)

I have one and it will only cut two layers of fabric, will not go over seams. You have to cut the first inch your self then it cuts as you sew. I would not buy one for the quilt edge.

Thanks that sorts it out for me, I only would want it for the quilts so it won't work for me, thanks for your input.

Have you thought of doing a stay stitch or basting stitch that will be an 1/8" from the edge of the quilt?? I normally trim my quilt, then do this stay stitch and then attach my binding.
