:?: One question I have (among many) is does it really make a difference on a solid piece of fabric which is the RIGHT SIDE?
We purchase for the pattern but if there is no pattern and it's a solid with no markings does it matter which side we use? I wash my fabric before I cut it and if I forget to mark the outside of the fabric before I cut it I can't always tell which side of the fabric is the right side. (the one that was on the outside of the bolt). If there is no pattern and both sides look the same
what does it matter? I have seen some materials that I like better on the backside. Is there something on the front of a piece of fabric (besides the pattern)that makes it the only side to use? On some fabrics, I make sure that each piece is the same (I can not always tell which is the "correct" side).

There is a right side and a backside to each fabric whether the color is the same or not. If you look closely at quilting weight cotton you can see the warp and weft threads on one side more clearly than on the other (shows on the back of the fabric most generally. Also there is sometimes a difference in the sheen of a fabric between the front and the back. It doesn't matter which side you put facing up but if you mix them you may be able to notice it when the quilt is all put together. I often piece print fabrics with the wrong side up because I like the look of it better than the front of the fabric in with my other colors. Good question!

somtimes you can use both sides very effectivly ie batiks when making leaves for applique it doubles++your varity of colourings but if you want a uniform colour throughout the quilt be very carefull what ever side you pick front or back mark it on what is going to be the back chalk or whatever will stay you will see a difference

i pay for both sides of my fabrics and i use both sides almost equally....which ever side works in the project i am working on is the 'right side'....if you check out water color quilting you will find lots of those fabrics are turned over, opposite side some people would use...me...i use what i pay for...and i pay for 2 sides of every fabric :thumbup:

Check it over carefully, if you can't tell a difference? then it doesn't matter.

Hand dyes and batiks do not have a wrong side :wink: due to how they are dyed. Other prints? I use the side I like best for what I am making at the time :D:D:D

It makes no difference unless there is a sheen on one side.
Feel the selvedges of the fabric and on the wrong side it will have an ever so slight ridge at the very outside. Hope it helps.
