Silk batting from CT
 

Has anyone hand quilted this material? I'm comparing it to wool for ease of quilting and handling.

It hand quilts great. I buy a lot of it when it's on sale. It machines quilts nicely too.

I just took two classes from Jamie Wallen at Road to California. He said that he has tried silk batting. He makes sample quilts and washes them many times to see how they hold up. The silk batting did not hold up at all well. If you're using it for an art quilt that doesn't get washed it would do nicely, but I wouldn't use it for a bed quilt. And that's a shame, because I have a silk batt that I've been saving for something special.

I haven't had any problem with this silk batting. It is a blend of poly and silk. There are different brands of silk, some blended with flax, bamboo, and or cotton. Quilter's Dream Orient is another good silk batting blend. I wouldn't use 100% silk for a quilt. That is more for quilted clothing.

How does it work for miniatures?

I have never used it. Is it expensive??

With this sale its the same price as wool. That's why I'm considering it.

I have used the Hobbs silk batting in a quilt. It was nice to hand quilt. The drape is nice. The quilt is special to me and is decorative rather than functional, so I haven't washed it yet. I hope it holds up to use and washing and am anxious for those of you who have given silk batting use and washing to report.
