Silk Batting

Just got three silk battings -queen sized, for free. I've never used silk, what can you tell me about it? I would guess it's real nice for hand quilting, but wonder about machine quilting. And it's washable, right? something tells me these are really pricey if you have to buy them, so I'm feeling really fortunate.

Are they 100 percent silk , or are they mixed with another fiber? if so what"s the mix percentage?

I've never used silk but a friend has and she really liked it. Maybe google silk batting - you could learn a lot from that.

I have heard dream orient is really nice. I was thinking about using it for a special quilt one day as it is way pricey

Silk batting is fabulous in hand quilted cotton quilts. It is very soft and luxurious. I took a class years ago from Roxanne McElroy, and she passed around a quilt with silk batting. It was lovely! Silk batting was her favorite for hand quilting.

It's also great for quilted clothing because it is light in weight and relatively thin.

I love the silk batting. It is warm in winter without all the weight and breathes well in summer. The samples I saw were both machine and hand quilted and were all lovely.

I use silk or wool batting for all my quilts except utility quilts. I use Hobbs Tuscany brand. It's amazing how great my machine quilting looks compared to how it looks using regular cotton batting. Connecting Threads has 30% off sales on Hobbs batting (except silk) every few months. I use Hobbs cotton batting for utility and donation quilts.

They are 100% silk. I know some are mixed with polyester but these are all silk.
