i am trying to sew a silk quilt for a friend. is there an easy way to ensure that the fabric does now move while sewing. any hints would be greatly appreciated

I've never sewn with silk but would a walking foot help?

I would prewash the silk and starch it before cutting.

A lot depends on what type of silk you are using, but in general, I would not use a walking foot nor would I use starch. There are lots of great websites with advice on how to sew with silk and I suggest you do some research. I use the sharpest cutting tools and the smallest, sharpest needles when I work with silks. I also sew very slowly, watching for shifting.
