Hi all,
I have been cutting a lot of 2 1/2 inch strips lately, and am noticing even on the best brands of fabrics, some of them will not line up, and I am getting that wavy v, or if it is a fabric with a noticeable repeat pattern, it is off, and I don't like the way that looks...also very irritating to waste so much fabric trying to get it all cut straight...not to mention time consuming and hard on the upper back and shoulders. So, I have been wondering about the fabric cutters for a while, and here may be the perfect "need" (mmhhmm..need, right...lol) to get one...I am wanting input about the different cutters, please...I really don't know that I will use it enough to justify getting the Accuquilt, as the dies are fairly pricey...but the Simplicity only cuts strips, and I have seen some wonderful reviews and some terrible ones! I know that is true of everything, but there is always great "across the board" feed back here..with honest opinions. Thanks so much! Kif |
I have the June Taylor shape cutter for cutting strips. I rarely have a "V" and it is alot cheaper than the cutters.

I just purchased the Altos Quilt Cut 2, but I haven't had a chance to try it out, yet. It's not cheap. But there are no additional dies to purchase. Based on the included CD videos and the printed manual, it'll cut just about any geometric shape. The cutter also holds one end of the ruler making it easier to hold the ruler steady. Holding the ruler steady is one of the more difficult parts for me in getting straight and accurate cuts.

I have the altos also, I can cut multiple layers and I do not get the v. The clamp holds it down tight so you do not get the wave thing.

If all you are cutting is strips then the June Taylor Shape Cut would be the best option. Buy the big one so you won't wish you had later.
I have the Go, the Alto 2, and the June Taylor shape cuts. I use them all. |
Thanks to all of you!! I knew I would get good advice.. going to price the Alto now...I have the JT shape cut, but it is the 12"x12"...and, as stated, it is too small...it works great for small things, tho...I don't think I even knew about the bigger one when I bought the one I have.

I have the Accuquilt Studio which I have named "Romeo" because I love it sooooooo much.

The Simplicity Rotary Cutter is NOT worth the money! I had one, used it once or twice and then it sat on a shelf for over 2 years.

I use the shape cutter that is 12 x 12. I fold the fabric in half (carefully) so I can cut full WOF strips.
