If you know what episode you are looking for or the subject matter, maybe I could send you the tape. |
I have some her episodes on tape I recorded a while back. Maybe I have something you're looking for in particular? At the OLD age of almost 38 I love quilting and know plenty of others that enjoyed the sewing/quilting shows on HGTV and DIY. It probably comes down to which type of shows make them money and that's what they will air.

I'm not a fan of HGTV any more. They are geared for the young, which can't afford anything much when they start out but they all want the biggest and the best right away. I'm sure they'd walk into my house, too and say that everything had to go and be updated. I have a nice house and it's taken us years to get it but we love it and appreciate the work we've put into it. I often wonder, if you revisited some of these young couples that just had to have everything perfect the first time around if they'd still live in that house or even be together. I just don't like the message that HGTV is sending to young people that if you go in debt far enough you can have it all right now.
OK...that was my rant on HGTV, so here's a web that you can see Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. Maybe someone else has already posted this. I didn't read all the posting...sorry :).... http://www.thequiltshow.com. I also like to watch (on the web): www.quilterstv.com. |
Ok quilters, let's start writing HGTV. I'm going to make it a new "main" topic too.
http://www.hgtv.com/contact-us/package/index.html |
I wonder how much of it comes down to what companies are willing to buy advertisement on the various shows... If no sewing machine/thread/fabric companies are willing to shell out the bucks we lose out?
Just a thought. Sorcha |
Now that you mention it, I don't watch HGTV anymore either. I used to watch it frequently.
|
Lucky me, i had to work when Simply Quilts was on the tellie so I taped ALOT if not most of the episodes on (GASP) VHS but i still have them and the machine to play them so every soooooooo often I get them out and view them. DH says I should convert them to DVD. Also taped Quilt in a Day and fons and Porter when I could. They are older but MINE! hehehehehe :D :D :D
|
I also agree HGTV is no good to watch anymore,we get Fons & Porters 0n PBS,check out their web sight.
|
Seems like you can find numerous shows for football.hockey, fishing, cooking, decorating, but ZERO ones for any kind of crafts...I know that not everyone does crafts but not everyone fishes either...come on guys...let's see if we can't get at least a couple of craft shows on...
|
Ok, I just wrote my thought on the subject.
Let's get busy with it and hope for some results. |
And this house sells for only $$$$. Most people don't have that kind of money and it gets so silly to watch. I do like looking for houses internationaly. I watch for the scenery!! LOL But the good news.. The DH and I have saved enough that with a little help from his GM, we are giving ourselves the Christmas present of paying off the house!! Can we say YES!!! This place only cost us $40 so many years ago and it is 4 bedroom and 2 bath. And I did all the decorating, so it's the way we like it. Sorry to go on like this, but GM had me go to the bank today and we just found out its possible.
|
Congratulations!!! That is quite a achievment and it feels so good - no more house payment!!!! What a Christmas present!
|
Sent my email to HGTV today and plan on doing some more in the coming weeks. Maybe they will hear us!!

I'm a 25 year old and I agree with you that I want my Simply Quilts back. Hate the home improvement shows. I canceled my cable ... wow, 2 years ago now, and I very rarely miss it.
|
I quit watching HGTV when they took off Simply Quilts. I now watch Eleanor Burns on Wednesday afternoon on RFD. Fons and Porter daily on
BYU. |
I'm pretty sick of home improvement and buying the house of your dreams shows.[/quote]
------------------ I'm also sick of the home improvement thing, but with me it's either learn to do it myself or hire it done by expensive experts. Surprising what an old lady of 77 can do in an old house with a lot of power tools. And no one to tell me a better way but for those guys on the Internet. |
You are all right. HGTV has gone to the dogs, and the true home decorating, craft, and sewing programs are inaccessible. Fortunately, I live on the Georgia/South Carolina border. Georgia PBS stinks, but the SC PBS carries several good programs which focus on the arts. Unfortunately, I have to get up at 0500 to watch them. I record them onto the computer, then cut to CD. There are a few quality subscription only programs on the internet which I am considering. Sharon Shamber being one of them. I figure if I can drop big bucks on fabrics and sewing equipment from time to time, I can do the same for my educational enhancement.
I entertained the idea of HGTV for Men and another HGTV for Women. Then I thought of all the men who are tailors, quilters fine art craftsmen and painters. Also, what about the children? The arts and family and consumer sciences programs are being removed from the schools. Kids barely know their colors, much less how to match them when they dress for school. They can't replace a lost button, or make a pot holder for Mother's Day. They watch the big tube or the flat screen when playing games, but not to learn new crafts. They need the sewing 101 programs as much as their mothers/care providers. Those programs ought be on rabbit ear access TV, not subscription service. What we need is an ARTS Network. Any suggestions as to what the ARTS would stand for? |

|
HGTV has turned into the Real Estate Show. I can't imagine who watches hour after hour of people looking at houses to buy. I don't bother most of the time anymore. If I want to see something i tape it and skip the commercials too.
|
What I want to know is, how do kids in their 20's get enough money to buy a $250,000 house?
What's worse, those houses have all of 1400 square feet in them and HGTV makes it sound as if they are huge! Unless my math is way off, even at $100 a square foot, they should get 2500 square feet for that much money, but that still doesn't tell me which kids make enough money to make payments on a house that costs that much. I quit watching HGTV when the quilting, sewing, craft and Design on a Dime type shows were cancelled. Someone is out of touch with reality. |

Here is another link to Simply Quilts:

Does anyone know where to find the original program videos? |
So that is what happened. I wondered about them. I liked to
watch her show and then I couldn't find it all of a sudden. |

Alex Anderson does not own the shows and I doubt HGTV will ever have them on DVD. It would be bad for their image. I heard from one of the producers that use to work for HGTV that any show that wasn't geared toward the younger modern audience was cancelled and that included all craft and needlework shows.

Hey, it never hurts, right? |
When I set up my household, I justified the extra expense of a cable upgrade because of the hgtv channel sewing/quilting/knitting shows. Carol Duvall had so many really good craft people on her show, I wouldn't think of any other channel for the first half of the day.
I don't even stop on hgtv any more. Really, when I started to hear, "this is going to be a difficult project, the couple only has 75 grand for the makeover, one room", I knew the channel had nothing for me, a waste of my time. I have direct tv hd, is there a sewing/needlework/ quilt show on? I would really love to see a show. Someone help please.... |
Direct TV carries Fons & Porter on the BYU channel.
|
Also sewing with Nancy and Martha Pullen are on Sunday. I think 3:00. I am in Central Time Zone.
|
This is on Educational TV. Channel 15 in my area.
|
I too miss Simply Quilts. It was how I started every day ( it came on in the AM). Plus they would rerun an older episode in the afternoon. ( I planned my lunch break just to catch it). There really has not been a high quality show to replace it.
I loved the guests and the topics. Great inspiration. It used to be that I would check the programming for HGTV first to make sure I did not miss anything good , now I can not tell the last time I watched anything on HGTV. I am not a fan of all the home "stuff" that now is on HGTV. A little of that "stuff" goes a long way. |
Amen
|
Have you tried the Quilt Show.com? You have to pay to belong but the charge is not enormous and Alex Anderson is on this show with Ricky Timms. Just a thought.

We get Sewing with Nancy and the Martha Pullen show on Saturday AM every once in awhile. It isn't every week tho'. It's on NPT.
I understand Fons and Porter comes on, too, every once in awhile. I have to constantly check the TV Guide if I want to watch them tho'. It's ridiculous. They should be on the same time everytime. Dodee |
I did watch Alex Anderson, but didn't care for her - that fake laugh got to me.
