I'd like to know some online sites to buy slant feet to do free motion quilting.
The style I see most often is a square lucite foot that doesn't have much visibility. If you have different style that work for you, let me know where you found them. I'd like an open toe design. Thanks |
I bought my FM foot for my 301 and 301 thru SewClassic.com
I used it love it and it's cheap 5.99...Got into site, on left click on parts...then on left click on slant needle... I highly recommend this foot. But they do have other versions also. Also bought the 1/4 inch foot with guide and walking foot there for the 301's.. |
Thank you will try it. Did you also try the walking foot and stitch in the ditch foot? What is the walking foot to be used for?
|
Jenny at sew-classic.com has a couple of different kinds for slants.
I found a vintage 301 darning foot on eBay, but honestly, I prefer the one with the square lucite "foot" to the very expensive original foot. :) The visibility is actually very good - but you might have to spend half an hour quilting with it to get used to it. I think you have to remove the lowest thread - or maybe it was the thread cutter - to get any but the original vintage foot to fit on some 301's. Mine didn't seem to have this problem, but I know some have. |

It's very good for quilting because it keeps the top from stretching out fasting than the backing fabric. It's also great for sewing long strips together when piecing and sewing the binding to the edge of the quilt. :) |

I guess the square lucite one from the picture looks like it is offset to one side rather than right in front of the needle and that is why I thought it would be harder to do the FMQ if you had to contend with something offset.
|
Thank you for all the information, need the input to make the decision to get the foot that works well so I can concentrate on the FMQ.

It looks that way because of how it screws on the 301 but trust us you'll get use to it...I also am a beginner FM er and could get the hang of it on the newer machines and there just something abt that 301 that made it nice to FM on and I did a much better job on it.

Thank you for the link, I just used a free motion foot and walking foot and need to return them both, they did not work, even they are sold for slant foot.
Off now to check them out and hopefully order them:) |
I looked up an online manual for directions to drop the feed dogs. I need to replace the ink b/4 I can print them out.
I went to sewclassics and ordered both the free motion and walking feet. Thank you for the link. |
Thank you, will try it out. Which foot did you get for the foot with the 1/4" guide, there were three? If you want to do stitch in the ditch, which one is the best and does the walking foot do the same thing that is offered? I saw there was one specifically for the 301.

Both 1/4 seem the same...I think I have the first one that says edge...but other seems the same. Walking foot the one that specifically says 301 or 301A...may have to wait until in stock...no adjustments needed for that one.
Stitch in ditch foot has the metal guide bar in the middle. But I use walking foot so that the fabric on the bottom moves and you dont get ripples. |
Does the walking foot gear go in the ditch as you stitch?
I was wondering since the SID feet have a guide on the foot? |
No but I'm use to using the walking foot for SID...I have a SID foot for my newer machines and never use it...always walking
|
thanks again for all the information by experience.
I'll try to get the feet and practice FMQ |
