Hello,
Does anybody have a Singer 9940 Quantum sewing machine? Im thinking about buying one and would love any feedback. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320179817432&ssPa geName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011 Thank you, Judy in Ohio |
I am leery of factory refurbished machines, this can mean that it was only out on display, used a few hours to demonstrate, to it was abused and sent back and they may or may not have found all of the problems. I found many refurbished machines when I was looking for mine, and for not much more I found brand new ones. Saving a $100 or so now may not be such a wonderful deal a year from now.
Good luck on your search, but, if at all possible go and try one out at a dealer first, even if you end up buying the same model online. My Singer has problems going through some of the seams, and I am only sewing 100% cotton fabric in my piecing. Good luck in your search! :D |
my bought-brand-new singer (different model) performs beautifully except for one thing: i still haven't managed to get any decent machine applique done with it - even with the lightest weight fusing product. i think the problem is probably me, but ... my other machine sails right through all weights.

here was an ad at the bottom of this discussion page. It took me to : http://www.shopzilla.com/7S--Sewing_Machines_-_cat_id--13110105__keyword--quantum%20singer%20sewing__nwylf-- There are a number of on-line stores that sell Singer as well as other brands. Do a Google search and you will be surprised at what you come up with. I ordered an inexpensive Singer for my daughter from Allbrands http://www.allbrands.com/products/abc0092.html then there are others like: http://www.sewvacdirect.com/ You might want to check these out before you buy something you are not sure about. Wondering if anyone knows which bobbin the Singer Quantum 9940 uses.
|
I have a Singer Quantum older version. It sews beautifully. I bought it for the decorative stitches, before I started quilting all the time. It sews quieter then my Bernina.
|
Onebyone do you know what type bobbin your machine uses? I have gotten mine mixed up and don't know which ones go with the Quantum 9940. It's an older version also.
|
I’ve got a newer quantum and it takes class 15 bobbins. It came with plastic ones so that’s the type I use.
|
Thanks Chezcat. I think mine takes a 15J but not sure. Guess I'll try to find some at LQS and maybe label might tell me.

I have the Quantum 9960 and love mine. I got mine new from amazon. It sews like a dream the fancy stitches I've tried (several including the alphabet) have sewn perfectly even when I was using them to quilt.

You can call the 800 singer help number, they are very helpful.

I sent Singer an e-mail and they responded quickly. My machine uses class 15 transparent bobbins. Thanks everyone for the help. I love this machine and all it's decorative stitches. Bought it new from all stitch back in the late 90s and it is still going strong. I've had no trouble sewing numerous layers of fabric with it.
