Oh man, I just talked to a 81 yo man from CA who has five, yes 5, FWs!!!!! He is selling all of them!! AND he has a 222K. He said all are in perfect condition!! His wife is a master hand quilter who teaches classes. He was super nice!
Why am I not rich? He wants $500 for the 221 and $975 for the 222K. :( with tears! Edit: He has 3 origiinal FW cabinets, too! Another Edit: I meant for this to be in Main, not Classifieds but in my amazement, I goofed! |
Good lord! Who can afford that now day's. Prices r getting ridiculous! Some of us could really use them but like me live on disability! And most like me donate most of their crafts to charity!! Sad! :(
$975.00...seriously!
Keep looking, you'll find one. I'm wishing you good luck. |
I have 1 and am very greatful to have it.
Just outta curiosity -- where in CA? There is a guy in Santa Rosa I believe who not only buys them but he restores and custom paints them. Featherweights are big here and the prices are steep. I know a quilter (we used to be best buds at one time) who now has 13 of them! She said she wanted each one of her 6 granddaughters to have one. Obviously she's gotten carried away and I think a bit greedy. I wish you luck in finding one.
Actually, 975$ for a 222 is a good price.
No way too pricey. Keep shopping still many super nice ones to be had in my area for $200 with a little patience.
Diff too high...ck out ebay they go anywhere from 150-330 and they have many on there...Also try Goodwill.com always one or two on there.

There were many FW's at Cincinnati quilt festival. All fixed up and shiny and at least $425.
Take a look at Ebay. I was in there today and a few looked like no one was bidding on them and they were close to closing, somewhere under $200. I am lusting after the world's most complete set of a 222 + practically accessory know to womankind for only $1995, it's really a bargain considering she has stuff I've never even seen!!! Drool, drool, drool
I gave less than $200 for my FW with the case, lots of feet, original manual and in FANTASTIC shape off E-bay!! Keep looking and you'll find one eventually.

If I close my eyes, I can still see my Mother sewing on hers in the 1950's...............

you should find a good one soon.
The 222 sounds like it's in line with what they are running. I paid more for mine a couple years ago and, cheap as I am, didn't suffer a minutes worth of buyer's remorse.

I found a FW for $75 from a lady who was closing out an alterations shop. Unfortunately, she decided to raise her price before I could get to it. It's well worth the higher price, but out of my range.
He's 81, he has done his homework , smart man
GOsh ,Nanamoms, hope you find one at a better price but they were good prices. Depending on condition. One will come your way. HUGS♥♥
Keep looking, you will find your perfect FW for a lot less than he is asking.

That's a little steep for that featherweight! I found mine on E-Bay and only paid 300 for mine, just keep looking! And dry those tears!
If you want it bad enough...you will pay the price, especially if it's in mint condition!
I recently purchased a FW right here, from this board, fully refurbished. After looking at moderate price new machines and experiencing plastic disgust, am instead now lusting for a full size Singer, plus a Singer treadle, both restored by local repair shop--comments on this board have driven new-quilter me to joyous new-fabric and old-machine acquisitions. :-D Now need more room to store same  and more time to sew! Time to clean house :? ? But I want to sew!
I truly wish I had a FW but.... Anyway, my friend found a 221K at an estate sale in missouri and she paid $100. I dont what the difference the K means. sorry for my stupidity.
There was a FW on Craigslist, the seller said that it was a rare FW and wanted 900 dollars. It sure looked like any other FW to me.
Maybe a dumb question but what's the difference between a 221 and a 222?
