singer and Janome

Just look at sale ad for JoAnn's and they are now selling Janome machines. Any body know more about this?

Hancock's is also selling Janome. Janome might be doing what Brother did. Brother sold their first embroidery machine under different brand names. The Bernette Decos are Janomes. Maybe Joannes got tired of dealing with VSM machines. VSM makes Viking, Pfaff and Singer.

It's good they are. Gives first time sewers more choice and options. Even more advanced sewers looking for a specific function.

just wondered if they had sold out to JoAnns, or singer etc.??

I have heard that Janome is a really good machine, but then so was Singer at one time. I would really like to upgrade, but most of the Janome are out of my price range. Maybe if JoAnns is selling them, I may be able to get one.

Hancock and if Joanns is going to sell Janomes it will not be the expensive ones. Hancock has the lower end

My Janome is 29 years old and the only problem I have ever had is the motor burned out last summer. I have used it for a drapery business and it has sewn more sitches than I would want to count. I use it for embroidery, garments. FMQ, and I also sew for numerous clients. When I had it serviced by the man that I bought it from , some 20 or more years ago, he said it had already had the normal lifetime[ for that machine] of use. I had already run the gears out of 2 Singers when I purchased my Janome. Am looking for a backup Janome as I know this one will kick the bucket at some time. Glad to hear Joanns is getting smart with the Janomes!!

Sears sold Janomes under their brand names for years....not sure if they still do. If it had 385 at the beginning of the serial number---it was made by Janome.

I just looked at the Joanne's website and the only Janome I see is the DC1050. I've never seen or heard anything about this machine, so I looked it up on the Janome website. It has nice features for the price, but my suspicion is that it is probably not made to the same specs as their other machines ... meaning while it may have some of the same features the raw materials to make the machines are not the same quality (ie plastic instead of metal). A lot of companies have completely different specifications/processes/raw materials for various models and are even manufactured in different places.

The other consideration of course is that if you buy a Janome from a dealer you usually get at least one free class on how to use it, support, and typically most dealers have their own service tech. I don't know if Joanne's has all of this to offer.

Ahh ... OK ... check out this review. I noted two things in here. 1) "light weight" only weighs 12 lbs. This tells me there is more plastic than metal. 2) No darning foot, not sure if the notation is there is not one available for this machine or if it just wasn't included in the bundle. If you plan on using this machine to FMQ you'll need to investigate this further. 2) ditto for the walking foot. Other than that, the review is pretty good.

Our Hancock sells the 5812. The last ad featured it. There are 3 or 4 other machines on the shelves in the store. I think one might have been an embroidery machine.
Probably depends on the turnover the store has - what people buy most.
One Joanne has a Viking inset, and Viking has to sell Singer (per VSM). Joannes could have wanted some of that traffic for itself.
