also, the Singer S16 is the same as the Janome 1600P. I picked one from Amazon last year for around $500 and it is fabulous. I actually think the Singer versions are more attractive too because I like the gold color better than the color of the Janomes.

Well, called my favourite dealer/technician who is also a Singer dealer and asked about this machine. I told him that I'd rather buy it from him, as we've had such good dealings over the years. He called up Singer and got it for me for $100.00 LESS! Woohoo! Plus, of course, buying from the dealer you get all the back-up of lessons and hand-holding....

Hi Watson, I too was looking for the Janome 6500 but cannot get one. Was told by the store that the Singer s18 is the 6500. Are you happy with it? I live in Oakville, on who did you purchase from?
