I need a little advise on this machine. Please go to Craigs List for St. Cloud, Mnn area and check out the Singer Sewing Machine for $20.00 . It comes with case , is her grandma's so she doesn't know much about it. Does it look like a featherweight or something I should consider. It is only 20 miles from me. thanks for in advance for any suggestions.

Yes that's the one, and thanks for your info.

Post the link here. Open the site, right click on the address bar at the top of the page, click on 'copy'. Come back to the QB, open your entry, choose 'edit' and the choose 'edit' from the toolbar on your computer. Click on 'paste.' Then we can look at it easily.

In general, any vintage machine that isn't rusted beyond recognition is worth $20.

I just looked and didn't find the machine you're referencing, but I did find two 401s - one for $40 and one for $50. The $50 one would be coming home with me if I were closer! Or the other one for that matter.

Found it. How fast can you get there? That doesn't look like a 501 - the 501 has more of a Jetsons look, but it something from the 400 or 500 series. The 501 may be Singer's best electric machine, but any are worth buying. I lile my 301, but sew on a 401 at quilt guild and it's a nice machine.

I just looked again. It may be a 501. I repeat, how fast can you get there?

That is not a Featherweight. Featherweights are small black machines in black boxes. They are VERY small, and have an attached flat plate at the sewing end that folds up.

You still at home?

If it runs, I'd grab it.

It is not a featherweight, though.

It's one of the Touch and Sews in the 600 series, 626 or 636, post 1960... (mid- 60s), not really collectable or highly desired, but some people like them. There are a CABOODLE of them out there-- you see them everywhere. $20 is about the going rate for one of these and you will see it again for that price, or less, and often.

Don't waste a lot of gas to get to it.
