I found Singer Touch-Tronic 2001, circa late 70's, that I can buy real cheap.
I have never used a singer but know several of you have - for the most part I have only ever used my basic Husky (which I love).
I was looking at this one because it has alot of decorative stitches mine does not have. The seller says it works great and has all its attachments, so it is probably a good deal.

Does anyone have one of these machines or any experience with them? Would it be worth getting even though it is an old (but not vintage) machine? Is it easy to use/figure out?

I had my mothers until it gave out and the repair shop said they could not get parts for it :cry: it had rubber feet instead of the metal and they wore out :shock: I used it to death I guess you could say :lol:

I have one. It is a great machine .It has been all over the world(Navy wife) and still sews great. It was my only machine until just recently when I got a FW. I have sewn everything on it from fancy christening gowns and prom dresses to jeans.My hubby sewed a corduroy quilt on it.

I have had my touchtronic since 1980 and I love it. I was at a garage sale and bought another one! I wish that Singer still made them.

We used to have one until the computer went bonkers. The people in the shop said it was because of the magnetic pin catcher and lamp that where on it.

I have my grandmothers. I used it till it died and the repair guy said he just couldn't get parts to fix it but till it died it worked great. I miss using it but still have it in garage in box till maybe someone can fix it.

I have a touchtronic 2000 that came in a cabinet my DD wanted. she didn't want the machine so I took it to see if it works. It has a box with a lot of feet but no manual or bobbins. It turns on and seems to run smooth but without knowing what bobbin it takes I can't tell how it will sew. anyone know which bobbins it will take? i found some at Joanns but they aren't quite right. I think it may be more like the futura bobbins, going from the info i can find online.

The rubber feed dogs sometimes will become gooey and leave marks on your fabric. Parts are no longer available....but if the machine is cheap....and it works....I say, use it till it doesn't work anymore.

The Touchtronic I gave to my mother in law 35 years ago is still working fine. I gave it to a friend. The 2010 that I got as a replacement was a wonderful machine and I just donated it. Still works great and the bobbin winder while in place was a joy. I would not pay much for any of them in today's market.

I upgraded to a Bernina 440 for the quilting regulator and some of the features.

My repairman said so long as the plastic gears dont break, the Singers are good machines. Even if they break, it was $150 to replace all of them. If you do go that route, make sure that all are replaced.
