Went to an estate sale last week, found a singer treadle machine in the garage, for 75.00 being the first day they wouldn't come down on the price, next day was going to be priced at 58.00, had to work so I put a bid in for the machine for 60.00 that way I still had a chance to get the sewing machine. They called me late on Sunday, and I picked her up on Monday night.Three manuels were in the drawers, the last page had the replacement parts prices. Needles three for 5cents mailing 1cent, bobbins 5cents mail 1cent feed dogs and presser foot, 25cent, Can't wait to clean her up, Cabinet in great shape, only two places need sanded, but they add character. Number on the machine is AC577805 the number on the manuels say 27-4, will post picture when my son comes out next so he can do it for me.

That's awesome! I have my grandma's treadle sewing machine, I have all the parts including the manual, and it still works!! I can remember her sewing with it. I loved watching her feet work!!!

Congrats!
Last week I was going through a town that had rummage sales city wide.
Stoped at a second hand shop and asked if he had any old singers, he said, Yeah, a couple of those old anchor weights in the basement.... he said they were only good for anchors. I almost cried.
I didn't rescue the 2 he had, they weren't what I was looking for. sad!

Wonderful. Love my treadle.

You're going to love it! While the round bobbin machines are a bit easier to use, I absolutely LOVE the shuttle machines!! There's just something about them that makes them my favorites! Maybe the "clackety" sound of the shuttle swinging back and forth?
Congrats on getting a good buy!! :)

quiltingaz 09-22-2011 05:20 AM

What a lucky buy. Can't wait to see it cleaned up.

check you craigslist and sooner or later, something may just pop up there for you that is affordable...good luck!

dunster 09-22-2011 02:31 PM

Congratulations! But I think you might have a mismatch between the manuals and the machine. Your serial number corresponds to a Singer 66 manufactured in 1929.

Charlee 09-22-2011 02:32 PM

Linda... you're awesome! :) I didn't even look up the serial...am at work so didn't take the time!

Jennifer22206 09-22-2011 02:36 PM

A couple places to look..

Try www.shopgoodwill.com You might find a treadle close enough to you to make a bid possible.

Find the site of your local auctioneers. They have machines from time to time.

I got mine on an online auction--$25 for one and $26 for the other. Working on getting them both working.
