I have officially gotten the quilting bug :D

Just found a Singer Treadle sewing machine on CL, about 10 miles from my house.

I am interested to know what I need to know with regards to the machines.

Apparently it is in working condition with many attachments. It is a 2 owner machine, the people that are selling are downsizing. What is a fair price for a machine in good condition?

Thanks for your help!

Where I am, assuming the cabinet is in good shape and the decals on the machine are not too bad and it is in working condition, about $150 (especially if attachments are included). This one looks as if it was kept up well.

They are asking $200 and I thought that was fair, but I have no idea.

I think a lot depends on your area and also what is fair to me may not be fair to you. I paid $75 for my treadle. It wasn't in 100% working condition, the bobbin winder had froze up and it needed a new belt, shuttle, bobbin and still needs the needle. Apparently they take a slightly longer needle. The one I have in now is a modern singer needle and it isn't picking up the bobbin thread. I easily spent another $75 ordering all the parts I needed for it on line. Also the cabinet you pictured appears in better condition then my cabinet was in. So once all said and done, I invested $150 in mine plus the futzing around to get her running, which I still haven't done. I don't have any regrets though and am happy to have her. Oh I did not get any attachments. I felt I paid a fair price. Does this help any?

Thanks!!!!

That helps a ton.

Heck, this is an impulse purchase for me and I don't even know how to use it.

I figured that if it was in working condition and a good price, than maybe I could learn to use it and quilt at the same time. ;)

It would be worth as much as $200 to me if the cabinet is in good condition, machine looks good and works, and with the attachments.

OK...

Now I need to get in touch with the sellers.

My hubby said check here and see if it is a fair price. Seems we are all in agreement that it is..... yippee... I may get an old sewing machine.

LOL

Honestly this was the best purchase I have ever made and I did not feel guilty. I love my treadle the tradition and the fact my great great grandmother owned the same one. I say go for it. You will enjoy the treadle it is so much fun and the belts are not that expensive. Congrats! I would offer what you feel it is worth.

Well, that treadle sold before I got there. I did however get this one....

Her name is Elvirna. She needs some love, but I am so excited.

Also, going to pick up another one on Saturday. Yippee :D
