I've discovered that they're much cheaper in the States than the UK (less than half the price!), so have contacted Brubakers and will get one sent to a friend who's coming over here next month.

My Janome Horizon has that feature and I love it. I use it all the time when piecing so my machine doesn't eat my material. The machine beeps as a warning if I try to do anything other than a straight stitch and haven't switched back to the wide plate.

It is always best to use a single hole plate for FMQ, it does help a lot.

I have one for my 6600 and use it for FMQ and piecing little pieces. I have a system to remind myself when it's on - I flap down the panel that shows all the decorative stitches, then flap it up when I put the regular needle plate back. I can FMQ perfectly well without it though, though stitch quality is slightly reduced on intricate patterns. It won't solve every tension issue you ever had though. I was about to recommend you ask on the Janome forum but I see you're already on there. :-D

Good idea though - haven't been on there for a while.
