My best friend from high school has been a long distance truck driver for a bit over a year. Recently we were talking and he mentioned how cold his truck gets when he sleeps in it overnight in the northern states.....so naturally I have quilt designs galore flying through my head!!!!! I need to know a size, though..... Twin? Skinnier and longer than twin, maybe???? Thanks for the help!

Can you ask what size the mattress is? I think it may vary from cab to cab.

When DH had the truck, it had an x-long twin mattress.

Is your BFF thin or round? If thin, maybe only 54 inches wide by about 90 inches long. The extra length to tuck in or to pull over his head if it's really cold.

Don't make it any wider than necessary, because those bunks are really hard to make up nicely.

Why not just made a blanket that will cover HIM if he is a bigger guy make it a full or a queen, if he is a little guy maybe he can get away with a twin.

I know my father in law is a trucker and although he may be able to sleep on a twin size bed, he could never get warm under a twin size blanket. lol

One does need to take into consideration the size of the driver, too.

Make him a Queen size and he can fold it the way he wants to when he is decorating the bed. Then he has full comfort when he is sleeping under it. We have some (lots?) of truckers on the board. I am hoping they will chime in.
I would like to compliment you on your post 'title'. It is specific, detailed and to the point. It will get the attention of the 'big rig' specialists. Then there are those like me who have never been in a rig. But, I vote for Queen size so he can be all snuggly and warm as toast.

I agree, some of these trucks now have way bigger beds than when I used to go with my ex back in the 80's LOL

I would make it at least the size of a twin if not a queen size quilt, being able to wrap all the way up in it on colder nights would be a bonus! or being able to double it up would be nice too :D:D:D

My DH drives and his sheet size is between a twin and full. A fullsize quilt should be more than ample. He uses a full size blanket. Bunk is usually 72 inches long and width varies. ;)

Some states have new laws that require (this is stupid) that their beds have matching blankets and sheets. My Dad is a long haul driver and he got a ticket by the DOT for not having it all matching. How crazy is that??

Why not make it more or less like a sleeping bag, only larger?
If it can be velcroed closed it might be lots warmer that way, especially if he is the type who twists and turns during his sleep.
You could make it sleeping bag like except fit the bunk bed and look good.

I know when we used to go car camping (with station wagons, remember them?) we finally got rid of quilts and went the sleeping bag route. It was simply too hard to keep warm when one or more of us were twisting and turning during a windy, cold night.
