Size of Baby Quilts
Could anyone tell me what size a baby quilt should be? I made one that is 31 x 40, which looks like it would be great for a carriage but I am not sure if I should add another border. Then I made another one that is 36 X 36 and I and I'm not sure if I should make it rectangle or keep it square. Or am I just over thinking it.

They can be whatever size you want to make it. Your first measurements sound like the size of a receiving blanket. I tend to oversize when I make them. I go as much as 45 X
60. But if you keep it less than 40 wide you will not have to piece the backing . |
I think you are overthinking. There are uses for any size! Small ones are convenient for strollers & use in the car, larger ones can be used on the floor or on a big bed later.

I make mine 45 x 45.

you're over thinking. 36 x 45 is good so is a 45 x 60 for a crib

I make a variety of sizes but my favorite size is about 42x54.

I've made mine any size from 34x42" all the way up to 65" square. It really depends on whether your intention is for it to be used just in infancy or to become a lap quilt as the child ages. The smaller ones are easier for toddlers to drag around. Larger ones will carry over to big girl/boy beds.

As previously said, there is no set size. Look ar how it will be used and decide from that. Mine usually end up about 40" wide, and about 48" long.
