Hi Guys,
When I visit the board view other sites they all mentions sizes that we just don't have over here in the UK! Crib and Queen being the main two offenders. Also, it would be good to know if our single and king sizes compare with yours, so my question is........!!!! Is there anybody out there that knows the measurements of the quilt sizes in inches? ah heck!!! I thought we were gonna get to discuss something else!!!!!
|
Marsye,
You really do brighten my days - LOL LOL LOL! Hugs Caroline |
Maybe this will help:
one inch = 2.54 centimeters one yard = 0.9144 meter one meter = 39.37 inches one meter = 1.09 yards one yard = 36 inches So if something is 54 inches and you want to know how many cm it is: 54 inches * 2.54 = 137.16 cm |
Here are the sizes of the mattresses and then the size of the quilts (for me it is the 'about' size as I just go by the size of my blocks and then add borders to however long I want the sides to drop).
Crib 27 X 52 inches 45 X 60 Twin 39 X 75 inches 71 X91 Double 54 X 75 inches 86 X 91 Queen 60 X 80 inches 92 X 96 King 76 X 80 inches 108 X 96 Then we have a 'California King' size, but I'm not sure what the dimensions are on that one. |
Hi and thanks bearisgrey,
But what I need to know is the actual size of the named quilts...... i.e. Crib = X by X inches Queen = X by X inches etc. Hugs Caroline |
Hi Coyote,
That is exactly what I needed! You are a star! Hugs Caroline |

very eye catching title there  lol |
I found it very frustrating trying to get a more or less definite "size" for a given use.
|
Mattrasses are getting deeper. So I usually take the size of the mattress - say queen is 60"x80" and add 15" overhang on side and bottom and then whatever needs to be added to the top for the pillow tuck, if it is going to go over a pillow. If not then 15" on all four sides. This is a start because the depth of the mattress may require additional or less inches. I may my queens 90"x108" if that helps. Kings are about 110"x110"

I've often wondered what cot size was in UK?
|
Caroline, If they sell precut batting for quilts in your country it should already be sized for various bed sizes. For instance a crib batt is usually 45x60 inches in the US. That would give you a place to start.
|
Thanks guys,
I am going to a quilting show next weekend so I will check out the sizes.... but what I am seeing mostly is batting sold by the metre (39"). Hugs Caroline |

BABY between 36″ X 36″ and 52″ X 52″ or 91cm x 91cm and 132cm x 132cm. This size can depend on whether the quilt will be used in a crib.
CRIB between 30″x 46″ and 36″ x 50″ or 76cm x 117cm and 91cm x 127cm. If you are making this sized quilt as a gift, see if you can get the measurements each manufacturer has their own sizes and crib mattresses are different sizes too. COT between 58″ x 90″ and 72″ x 108″ or 147cm x 229cm and 183cm x 274cm. TODDLER 46″ x 70″ or 117cm x 178cm for a quilt. A toddler bed most often uses a crib mattress, however not always, so it is best to measure first. BUNK between 66″ x 89″ and 74″ x 103″ or 168cm x 226cm and 188cm x 262cm . WHEELCHAIR LAP QUILT 36″ x 36″ to 38″ x 47″ or 91cm x 91cm to 97cm x 119cm adding ties is sometimes a good idea, so they dont slip off. LAP between 52″ 68″ or 132cm x 173cm wide and the length can be from about 52″ 78″ or 132cm x 198cm. Although a lap quilt can be any size. A quilt that a child will want to bring along could be as small as 36″x36″ or 91cm x 91cm. A lap quilt that is 42″x 60″ 107cm x 152cm is great for cuddling up on the couch with. TWIN between 64″ 72″ or 163cm x 183cm wide and the length can be from about 86″ 96″ or 218cm x 244cm. FULL between 70″ 88″ or 178cm x 224cm wide and the length can be from about 88″ 100″ or 224cm x 254cm. QUEEN between 88″ 99″ or 224cm x 251cm wide and the length can be from about 94″ 108″ or 239cm x 274cm. QUEEN WATERBED 76″ x 104″ or 193cm x 264cm. KING between 94″ 108″ or 239cm x 274cm wide and the length can be from about the same, 94″ 108″ or 239cm x 274cm. CALIFORNIA KING between 98″ x 100″ or 249cm x 254cm and 114″ x 117″ or 290cm x 297cm. KING WATERBED 88″ x 94″ or 224cm x 239cm. |

When I read the title, all I could think about was weight!
Helllo! Size would matter indeed, if you didn't know how big your quilt needed to be made for a specific project. I have a little wallet card that I keep handy that shows quilt and bed measurements on it. |

Then we have a 'California King' size, but I'm not sure what
the dimensions are on that one. --------------------------------- I know what you're saying...some years ago we decided to buy a new mattress set, and the sizes totally confused me. There was also a Twin, Double, Extra Long Double, King, California King, Eastern King, and a Queen and an extra long Queen, plus you can order your own mattress made to your own dimensions, especially if you have a custom made bed, or an antique one. And don't forget the ever popular Bunk bed mattress. Plus all they've thought up since that bewildering shopping trip. |
Cal King is 72 x 84".
Yes, mattresses ARE getting deeper! |

Hi Caroline - here is a translation:
Bassinett = crib Crib = cot Twin = single bed Full = double bed Queen = larger double, 6" wider and longer King = huge California King = ridiculously huge |
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help and the laughs!!!!! I love this board! Hugs Caroline |
Had me on the edge of my seat.

If you google "quilt sizes," you will find several sites that list not only quilt sizes, but also mattress sizes. However, I've found it most reliable just to measure the top of a given bed and decide how long I want it to hang over the sides, and how much room I want at the foot and the top (do I want to allow enough to "encase" pillows or just to lie flat?), and then go from there.
One such site gives the following information for queen sizes: For quilts: usually between 88"-99" wide; length about the same. Queen mattresses are usually 60" x 80". But you would have to add to this significantly, if you wanted more overhang, possibly as much as 13" on each side. |
I don't know for sure about quilt sizes but I have researched a little about this and this is what I came up with ... if anyone else knows differently ... please let me know:
Crib 32x48 Twin 69x90 twin xl 69x102 full 84x90 queen 90x95 king 106x98 |
Here you are:
US Mattress Sizes:...........Comforter:.........Bedspread: Crib 27" x52"..............36 x60 Twin 39" x75"..............65 x88.............81 x110 Full 54" x75"..............80 x88.............96 x110 Queen 60" x80".............86 x93..............102 x115 King 76" x80"............104 x93..............120 x115 Comforter: (at other than crib size) includes a 13" drop on 3 sides and no pillow tuck Bedspread: includes a 21" drop (a typical bed height) on 3 sides and a 14" pillow tuck.
