Size of quilt for a twin bed
I would like to know the measurements I need to make a twin size quilt?
Thanks |
It depends on what you would like. Do you want it to hang to the floor? Do you want it to just lay on top of the bed or do you want it to go 10 or 15 inches hanging over. They can vary. This might help you.

You also have to consider if it has a foot board or not, how high the mattress are. The chart posted is a very good guide and the ones I have made are 72" by 88" .

There is a difference in the thickness of mattress now a days. You really need to measure the bed. Hobbs batting for a twin size is 72"x90".
|
Also, if you have a pillow uck or not.

And the original poster thought that was going to be an easy answer! LOL!!
Gotta do the math...size of the mattress plus the drop on 3 sides (using a dust ruffle or is it going to go the floor like a bedspread) plus if you want it to fold over the pillows. |
the top of the mattress is apx 39"W X 75"L, so you have to decide how much more you want (if any) on all 4 sides. good luck

There are really no 'standard' quilt sizes for any mattress type. You need to decide how long a drop you want, and on how many sides. Also, (just to complicate things) there are two types of twin mattresses, the mattress tops measure as follows Twin: 38 X 75 Long Twin 38 X 80.
Unless it's a surprize gift, I would contact the recipient & have them measure their mattress to see which one they have. I know that many college dorms have the long twins. |
Thanks for all your advice I will be contacting the mommy to get more specific measurements.
